The global Information Technology (IT) Function is leading efforts to align IT and Business Strategy, leverage IT investments, and optimize end to end business processes and associated information integration technologies.  Through these efforts, IT helps to improve the competitive position of Corning's businesses through IT enabled processes.  IT also delivers Information Technology applications, infrastructure, and project services in a cost efficient manner to Corning worldwide.

 

SCOPE/PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Reporting to the Service Owner of Global Compute platforms, the Multi-Cloud Engineer is a technology leader that will function as SME for compute technologies, with an emphasis on linux systems. Multicloud Engineer will function as an enabler across IT Architecture, Engineering, Operations, Security, Strategic partners, Technology vendors and Project management teams to facilitate the successful delivery of Corning initiatives and priorities responsibility will include supporting the migration of systems between datacenters, while preparing for a global transition of services from a third party provider. 

 

As a core member of the Corning Multi-Cloud team, the Multicloud Engineer will be responsible for helping direct and guide the delivery of key priorities across multiple stakeholders, with the assistance of the Project Manager and Technical Support teams. While being predominantly internally focused, this position will require strong communication to bridge between various Infrastructure and Application teams as well as an excellent ability to navigate within a background of relative ambiguity.

 

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   

  • Install and set up linux systems and servers, perform routine system maintenance and resolve server-side issues as they arise. Monitor system performance, provide technical support and guidance to other administrators. maintain system security by actively identifying faults and vulnerable areas within the system’s architecture.
  • Responsible for managing private cloud (VMware), public cloud (AWS/Azure), and both windows and linux servers.
  • Coordinate with the database team to support highly available database systems, particularly leveraging Oracle RAC.
  •  Production support for the private cloud environment working with 24x7 on-call support staff on a rotating schedule.
  • Partners with all members of project team as a technical lead in the planning, design, coordination and execution of comprehensive, realistic and effective work plans.

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or equivalent from four-year college in computer science or related field or equivalent experience

 

WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • 7+ years of experience in system administration, with a focus on linux (Oracle, Red Hat) and private cloud (VMware) systems.
  • 7+ years’ experience in a production IT environment managing enterprise IT infrastructure, hardware, hosting services and cloud infrastructure.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • In Depth knowledge of linux operating systems
  • A holistic understanding of IT infrastructure inclusive of server, storage, network, virtualization, database, DR/business recovery and continuity practices, etc.
  • A foundational understanding of public cloud models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) and providers (AWS, Azure, Google)
  • Proven ability to facilitate the gathering and translation of business requirements into quality infrastructure solutions, reflecting security, scalability, availability, performance, manageability constructs.
  • Demonstrated expertise driving operational improvement and excellence under an ITIL based service management model.

 

DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Working knowledge of Converged technologies such as Cisco UCS 
  • Experience with On-prem/Private cloud management platforms such as VMWare Cloud Foundations
  • Experience with enterprise storage arrays, such as Dell PowerStore

 

Travel:

  • Up to 10%, domestic and international

The range for this position is  $108,814.00 - $149,620.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
