Scope of Position:

Corning uses a wide variety of equipment and software from industry leaders such as AVL, Horiba, TSI, OMRON, Rockwell and others to instrument and control a variety of dyno test cells and lab gas flow test benches.  Corning Incorporated specializes in products to reduce particulate matter (PM), Particle Number (PN), NOx, CO and Hydrocarbons (HC) in engine exhaust. The Corning Environmental Technologies division produces aftertreatment control devices which help our automotive customers meet worldwide requirements for emissions reduction. U.S, European and Asian market regulators demand continuously tighter emission controls and Corning Incorporated is positioned to meet this growing market via product quality, increased capacity and improved product capability. 

 

The position is responsible for design, development, validation, and deployment of control solutions used in exhaust aftertreatment test systems.  Position is responsible to design and implement electrical control engineering solutions in support of a fast-paced exhaust aftertreatment testing facility. Primary responsibilities include supporting and improving measurement and control systems in our engine test cells, associated laboratories and test vehicles.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Communication with devices/instruments using CAN, CCP, XCP, AK, TCP/UDP
  • Novel control solutions developed using PLC’s, microcontrollers, and custom electronic/electrical circuits.
  • Create and maintain software, databases and perform data mining / analysis tools using C#, Oracle, SQL Server and MATLAB
  • HMI development using off the shelf tools/WPF framework.
  • Develop/modify instrument device drivers using CAN, CCP, XCP, PLC Controls (OMRON)
  • Design, develop and implement control and measurement systems with PID control; Develop custom hardware and software solutions using solid engineering principles.
  • Test validity of solutions that use PID and advanced controls, distributed control and I/O, relational databases, GUI/HMI Design

 

Required Education and Skills:

  • BS Engineering (minimum) – Electrical, Computer or Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent
  • Well versed in electrical engineering principles.
  • Familiar with control software technology: PLC/Ladder Logic, C# or JAVA, Visual Basic, Python, etc.
  • Familiarization with control systems, programmable logic controllers (PLC’s) and high-level languages such as C# is required
  • Understanding of advanced process controls techniques: PID, Model Based, Feed Forward, etc.
  • Motivation to participate in the design, development, and delivery of fully integrated control systems for automation and process controls in a laboratory environment.
  • Understanding of electrical panel layout, schematics, system testing and safe troubleshooting.
  • Experience with CAN, CCP, XCP, AK
  • Data analysis skills to ensure data is correct at the collection point.
  • Basic control construction and instrumentation trouble shooting ability.
  • Good teamwork skills including knowledge transfer and communication.
  • Independent problem-solving skills.

  • Operational skills to execute test plans & calibration procedures in the engine test cells.

The range for this position is  $83,948.00   -  $115,429.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
