Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

This position is part of a global engineering organization that provides measurement solutions to Corning’s Optical Connectivity business to deliver best in class products to our customers. The position assists as an Individual contributor to regional and global department initiatives for Metrology projects by providing technical support under appropriate supervision and direction from responsible engineer or supervisor.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Execute precision measurements for initial samplings of plastic parts using coordinate measurement machines (Zeiss O-Inspect) and computed tomography technology (Zeiss Metrotom 800)

• Provide support on projects by performing technical and administrative tasks such as fixture design, procurement, build, assembly and validation of components and develop/update technical and operational documentation for equipment. These fixtures will be used for coordinate measurement machines and optical measurement machines (e.g. Zeiss O-Inspect) used in high-volume manufacturing

• Work directly with internal customers to determine requirements and expectations for fixture design or Metrology

• Support continuous improvement projects, cost reduction and development of error proofing mechanisms (Hardware and software)

• Apply methodologies to properly manage metrology and fixturing projects to assure compliance with requirements and timelines. Work together with other Engineers and stakeholders to gather requirements for designing, developing, testing, and deploying measurement fixtures

• Manage projects under appropriate supervision and direction from responsible engineer or supervisor.

 

Required Education, Years and Area of Experience:

• A Technical degree or Bachelor degree in engineering or similar is required

•Experience with fixture design or metrology is a plus

 

Required Skills:

• Technical English/German skills (proper understanding and usage of technical documents, manuals, diagrams, operational documents, etc.)

• Knowledge in CAD software such as CREO Parametric, Autodesk Inventor or Solidworks

• Practical experience with CMM or CT systems and/or other metrology equipment and their metrological performance characteristics is a plus

• Knowledge of Zeiss Calypso and/or ZEISS GOM Inspect Professional is a plus

• Self-starter who can meet expectations for their objectives and timelines with a minimal supervision

• Ability to work closely with internal customers around the world to meet their requirements.
