Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

Purpose of the Position:

Lead an operations shift team to achieve safety, quality, and productivity performance. The position will have supervisory responsibility for 25-50 hourly associates and 2-3 operations coordinators in a cable manufacturing plant. This position is a part of the plant leadership team and reports directly into Operations.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Champion safety performance; Maintain and enforce all housekeeping and safety regulations.
  • Hold employees accountable for adherence to established procedures and performance metrics; Ensure awareness and compliance to changes.
  • Meet production level commitments through direction of employee efforts, planning, and organization of workflow; Maintain production priorities.
  • Reduce process variation and improve production yield; Identify production bottlenecks and manage resources to alleviate; Adjust staffing and machine assignments to achieve optimal flow and efficiency.
  • Develop, train and coach employees to be responsible and accountable for their individual and team performance; Create a work environment that is challenging and meaningful with constant, open, honest communication; Recognize and reward high performance.
  • Review performance with team members at regular intervals; Conduct employee performance reviews and provide coaching as needed.
  • Actively participate in the training of new employees, conduct refresher training with experienced employees, and review/maintain training materials Achieve and maintain world class housekeeping and product flow standards.
  • On a daily basis, ensure that employees provide concise and accurate documentation and communication of variances in process, procedures, or production priority, along with corrective action taken; Ensure appropriate first level troubleshooting steps are taken.
  • Manage employee time and attendance for timely and accurate payroll processing.
  • Resolve personnel issues at the first level whenever possible; Utilize the 4-step discipline process as appropriate.
  • Understand cost drivers and manage to lowest cost / highest output.
  • Recommend improvements to process and/or equipment.
  • Utilize capacity models to develop staffing and production plans.
  • Ensure the protection of Corning’s Intellectual Property Projects involved with: Safety improvement, Lean manufacturing, Workforce development, Complexity reduction.

 

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Engineering preferred) or equivalent manufacturing leadership experience (1-3 years’ work experience in a manufacturing environment).
  • 2-3 years previous supervisory experience preferred.

 

Required Skills:

  • Demonstrated safety leadership.
  • Computer skills (Excel – basic formulas and Word).
  • Sound decision making and prioritization skills.
  • Strong coaching / teambuilding skills.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the plant organization.
  • Strong people skills - able to hold accountable and resolve conflict.
  • Ability to handle/prioritize multiple tasks as necessary.
  • Effective problem solving and root cause analysis skills.

Hours of Work:

  • 12-hour Night rotating shift schedule that would include weekends.

The range for this position is  $79,166.00   -  $108,854.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
