Scope of Position:  In this role you will drive the definition, development, and communication of key insights from data.  You will be joining an analytics center of excellence for the Corning Life Science division.  Our mission is to add value to the business by utilizing our expertise in data modeling, statistics, and machine learning to identify and address the biggest opportunities to grow our $1B+ business.  A successful candidate will have a track record of fully owning analytical projects end to end starting with collecting and driving requirements through developing data-based solutions collaborating with a wide variety of internal stakeholders.  Driven by an insatiable curiosity, they will want to dig deep into available data sources, the associated business processes, as well as the tools and techniques to advance the way that Corning Life Sciences capitalizes on data.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Build production-level models on large-scale datasets to help Corning maximize its complex business processes’ global performance
  • Perform hands-on data analysis and modeling with large data sets to develop insights that improve business revenue and/or margin
  • Apply machine learning and statistical techniques to understand, predict or optimize impactful drivers of our business
  • Contribute to team development operational best practices to allow tools and techniques to scale
  • Prepare and deliver analyses and insight reviews to senior leadership
  • Collaborate with IT, external data partners, and self-developed databases to enable the appropriate capture, storage, data visualization and analysis of key data elements
  • Enable effective decision making by identifying, retrieving, and aggregating data from multiple sources and compiling it into a digestible and actionable structure and format
  • Contribute and participate in the Corning-wide data science community
  • Stay current with the evolving technology and modeling techniques

 

Required Education and Years of Experience:

  • Minimum of 7+ years’ experience in operations research, data science, and/or statistics
  • Minimum of 5+ years’ experience with Python or other similar scripting language
  • Master's degree in Operations Research, Mathematics, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering or other quantitative field

 

Required Skills:

  • Experience applying analytical methods to model business operations to improve performance 
  • Experience implementing linear and non-linear optimization algorithms 
  • Strong knowledge in descriptive and inferential statistics as well as supervised and unsupervised methods
  • Experience working directly with business stakeholders to translate between data and business needs
  • Experience applying various machine learning techniques, and understanding the key parameters that affect performance
  • Experience with database query languages such as SQL

 

Desired Experience / Qualifications / Skills:

  • Experience with data visualization and tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar
  • Experience developing Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) pipelines for processing raw data
  • Able to think creatively and possess strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively cross-functionally
  • Excellent organizational skills including prioritization of multiple concurrent projects
  • Ability to break down complex problems into smaller deliverables that add value
  • Business Acumen

The range for this position is  $119,887.00   -  $164,845.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
