Purpose of the Position

 

The Product Engineer (PE) is a key member of the worldwide Commercial technology technical team and is expected to be a key interface on Asia product engineering activities and functions to support the growth and stability of Automotive Glass Solutions products. The PE is expected to provide technical support and coordination in developing specifications, verifying product capability/reliability/ function, support the development of new products and new process flow requirements, and to act as a key technical interface with AGS plant manufacturing locations and the commercial/technical community, as required, to meet internal and external requirements.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities

 

• Ensure the specifications for internal/external specifications and drawings support the Automotive Glass Solutions (AGS) product value proposition and is within manufacturing capabilities.

• Review daily RFQs, specifications and drawings to respond to requests from the customer facing product engineers (CPE) and subject matter experts.

• Align and integrate customer product specifications with master specifications throughout business-wide processes and systems as needed.

• Determine if the RFQ is in line with standard product offerings. Provide detailed technical responses when required.

• Prepare customer technical presentations as required for CPEs.

• If manufacturing capability gaps exists, collaborate with PLM, Quality, Development and Engineering organization to establish plans to close the capabilities gap. Use Mini-tab to determine capability as required.

• If capability does not exist, quantify the product requirements gaps and discuss with PLM, D&E or Quality, to determine if there are pathways to develop the capabilities required.

• Provide recommendations to PLM and Sales on next steps when customer or internal quality issues require product engineering support. Establish processes and tools to facilitate the resolution of customer issues.

• Ensure attribute performance can achieve the customer requirements according to the committed timeline on new products and processes.

• Secure material compliance documentation from suppliers/laboratories.

• Organize data/issues/events into formal presentations as needed.

• Support the data collection on inquiries and new specification to identify product attribute gaps and trends. Collaborate with Commercial Technology to build and prioritize the attribute roadmaps as input to the business technology roadmap.

• Collect capability data on new attributes to respond to customer and internal requests.

• Develop/coordinate metrology protocols for qualification/certification of new products or measurement systems to assure customer requirements are satisfied.

 

Education and Experience

 

• BS or MS in science or engineering discipline.

• Statistical education or skills; MiniTab software skills would be are preferred.

• Experience in application engineering, product engineering or quality engineering with process engineering would be preferred but not necessary.

 

Required Skills

 

• Communication skills-Native Chinese to effectively operate in a Chinese business environment and good English skills to translate requirements to English speaking customers and colleagues. Flexible working environment with interactions in Asia, Europe and the US.

• Ability to operate with teams in a highly matrix organization with multiple reporting structures.

• Strong problem-solving skills, ability to stay calm under difficult situations and communicate clearly across the organization.
