The Performance Excellence Global Operations Manager / Engineer (PEO) creates and promotes a consistent culture of Quality throughout a selected Market Access Platform (MAP), Functional Staff Groups or Region of the World.  The purpose of the PEO is to understand the needs of the organization, create pull for leadership in the execution of critical strategies, enlists talent and guides quality methodologies that enable success (right the first time).  The PEO leads shared objectives that are aligned with company goals. The PEO has personal ownership in establishing and achieving shared objectives that the business deems fundamental to success.  PEO shares accountability for overall MAP/Function/Region performance and continuous improvement within the scope of the shared objectives.  PEO provides leadership, development, and coaching for the assigned organization.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Led the development of shared objectives and initiatives that are closely aligned with Business objectives and corporate expectations by incorporating knowledge of the organizations challenges, industry/environmental regulations, business strategy, and competitive capabilities.
  • Understand business critical path strategies, analyze needs from a quality perspective, and advocate for risk mitigations to ensure business successes.  Understand the organization to establish needed sponsors and funding. 
  • Measure performance against Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) that are agreed to by the assigned organization and include stretch goals.  Embrace ownership of results.
  • Design MAP/Function/Region goals and objectives with a global view considering supplier quality, manufacturing quality, contract manufacturing quality, and customer-defined quality.
  • Proactively solicit support for achieving shared objectives by locating and engaging specific needed skills and talent within the assigned organization, and if needed, across the company.   
  • Collaborate across functions and across levels of the company to remove roadblocks to success.  Escalate roadblocks to success as needed using influence and leadership skills to ensure execution of critical objectives. 
  • Champion the use of the right methodologies for the right problems at the right time. Advocate Quality practices and requirements to all departments and functions.
  • Promote continuous improvement methodologies to target problem resolution, such as but not limited to, DMAIC, Product Quality Architecture, Lean, Manufacturing Engineering Excellence, Error proofing, and Failure Mode & Effects Analysis.  Create pull for PEx Operations leadership.
  • Provide coaching and/or facilitation of methods and tools or establishment of performance metrics.
  • Identify and transfer leading practices with the Performance Excellence Operations group to impact across Corning Incorporated.
  • Provide updates to business leadership and Global Quality.
  • Build effective networks for Performance Excellence Operations including Engineering, Manufacturing, Commercial, Division Quality, Global Supply Management, and Regulatory Affairs.

  • Required: BS in Engineering
  • Desired: Masters (MBA, Engineering, Supply Chain)

Experience:

  • Greater than 10 years with Corning
  • Multi-division experience and staff group experience
  • Experience in established organizations and new organizations
  • Leadership roles in more than one area:  Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, and staff groups

Travel:

  • Typical is 25%, but occasionally up to 50%
