Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform experimental and theoretical studies, including statistical and computer modeling to improve the fundamental understanding of the mechanisms of chemical processing phenomena
  • Apply Chemical Engineering principles, including material and energy balances to optimize fluid flow, heat transfer and mass transfer unit operations such as mixing, ion exchange, adsorption, filtration, drying, solids processing, reaction engineering etc.
  • Design and develop new processes or improve existing processes or products across all Corning business sectors
  • Be a subject-matter-expert for Chemical Engineering unit operations with effective integration of Materials Science and Engineering expertise to achieve required product attributes
  • Present engineering and scientific results to internal stakeholders at various management levels
  • Measure and communicate performance against established objectives

 

Travel:

  • 0% - 50% depending on project.
  • MT&E Engineers support domestic and international projects 

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Chemical Engineering discipline
  • Prior industrial experience will be an asset including completed work internships

  • Ability to apply fundamental Chemical Engineering principles to solve problems and develop processes
  • Ability to generate fundamental understanding and apply it to produce practical solutions for real world problems
  • Ability to work in a laboratory or manufacturing environment on projects involving research, product & process development, technology deployment, and process troubleshooting
  • Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good team player with the ability to work in a diverse workplace
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

 

Desired Skills:

  • Understanding of intellectual property generation, capture and management
  • Some experience applying fundamental Chemical Engineering principles to address problems in the Pharmaceutical or Life Science fields.
  • Alternatively, understanding of Materials Science/Engineering for glass and/or ceramics materials and ability to effectively integrate with Chemical Engineering principles
  • Six Sigma Green Belt
  • Proficiency with chemical process simulation tools is a plus: AspenPlus, ChemCad, COMSOL, etc.
  • Negotiation, motivating and influencing skills
