Corning’s Display Technologies segment manufactures glass substrates for active matrix liquid crystal displays (“LCDs”) that are used primarily in LCD televisions, notebook computers and flat panel desktop monitors.


Scope of Role:

  • Process engineer that applies project skills and engineering principles to lead and support the development, trial, and deployment of new technology to improve Corning’s continuous melting process.
  • Projects involve technologies to improve yield, increase throughput, or improve robustness of the melting process.


Role & Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support projects to develop melting technologies to improve process performance through yield improvements, higher throughput, and longer system life. Collaborate with design engineers, materials engineers, R&D, and plant operations through different stages of project work.
  • Lead and support trials of melting technologies in manufacturing plants. Report and communicate to managers and partners during trials: status, issues, troubleshooting plans.
  • Lead technical assessments and data analyses to find opportunities for process and equipment improvement and to evaluate technology trials.
  • Design and implementation of process experiments.


Education & Experience:

  • We require a B.S. in Engineering – Glass Science / Ceramic Engineering, Materials Science/Engineering or Chemical Engineering preferred.
  • We are seeking 3 – 8 years relevant work experience (Glass melting experience highly desired).
  • Technical curiosity – seeking information needed to become a glass melting SME.
  • Strong technical skills – able to learn and apply to defect formation mechanisms, understanding of heat and mass transfer, understanding of materials thermodynamics and kinetics.
  • Analytical skills – ability to use rigorous data analysis and distill into concise results.
  • Problem-solving skills – ability to handle technical challenges using rigorous, scientific methodology.
  • MS Office computing skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).


Desired Skills:

  • Advanced degree in Engineering desired, but not a requirement.
  • Glass making or other high temperature continuous process experience.
  • New product/process development or scale up experience.
  • Statistical analysis skills and/or experimental design experience.
  • Project leadership skills – vision, planning, and execution.


Soft Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal skills – ability to interact across all parts of the organization (operators, trades, engineers, scientists, managers).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills – ability to effectively and efficiently communicate technical work to a broad range of partners
  • Taking responsibility for your own development – adapt to new situations and seek opportunities that continually grow engineering skills
  • Longer term career interest in technical or project leadership.
  • Ability to work in a diverse project team environment, leading or supporting technical projects.



  • Typically, 25 – 50%, primarily to Asia and Corning NY. This is the average. However, travel could be higher or lower between years depending on the work and project requirements which bring the potential for short/long term assignments overseas.
