Scope of Position:

Provides technical expertise in measurements and inspections on Pharmaceutical glass packaging equipment supporting 24/7 manufacturing facility. Ensures measurement and inspection equipment is running beyond expectations and deliver high manufacturing throughput.  

 

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Provide recommendations for the design, development, implementation and analysis of measurements systems.
  • Be the hands-on specialist for custom measurement and inspection built Corning Pharmaceutical industry.
  • Manage the transfer of early stage technology from development to manufacturing ensuring a successful migration into daily operations.
  • Co-work with manufacturing to ensure yield, uptime, and line rates are exceeded.
  • Train engineering, maintenance, and other trainers on the accurate use and maintenance of measurement & inspection equipment.
  • Provide remote and onsite technical troubleshooting of installed systems.
  • Support installation of systems throughout business growth.
  • Provide technical assistance in installation and maintenance of metrology equipment. Analyze equipment malfunctions and accordingly develop lasting corrective actions.
  • As required, maintains records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing equipment.
  • Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors.
  • Work with Manufacturing and Product Development groups on evaluating and implementing capacity, cost reduction and new opportunities.
  • Installation and training of new assembly equipment into manufacturing.
  • Involvement with process studies including process monitoring, recording data, calculate, analyze and give recommendations of data/test results.
  • Work with project teams and communicate project status through written or oral communicates as necessary.
  • Partners with external suppliers and machine builders to support capital projects in support of division objectives.
  • Implement corrective action related to process variations, equipment malfunctions, or operations

 

 

Travel Requirements:

  • We anticipate less than 5% travel is required for this role.
     

Hours of Work/Work Schedule/Flex-Time:

  • Monday – Friday, 8:00 – 5:00 pm, flexible to support
  • Weekend support as the need arises to support objectives; off-hours meetings and e-mails as needed.
     

Required Education/Years and Area of Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or physics
  • Minimum 7-10 years’ metrology experience in a manufacturing (or similar) environment.

 

Required Experience/Skills:

  • Must be hands-on and efficiently communicate gaps/concerns to both local and remote resources.
  • Curiosity to learn new things, motivation to apply learnings, and eagerness to execute.
  • Familiarity with different inspection techniques for various glass defects.
  • Brings the “Can-do” demeanor even when supporting vague or loosely defined objectives of a new business.
  • Able to lead and influence others both in and outside the organization.
  • Strong technical writing and documentation
     
     

Desired Experience/Skills:

 

  • Knowledge of image processing algorithms and measurement tools
  • Programming experience with C#.net, Matlab, or Python
  • Application experience using vision tools for the inspection of transparent “clear” glass.
  • High speed inspection and part handling.
  • Project management experience with clear concise updates.
  • Able to effectively communicate complex system details communicate across technical and cultural boundaries.
