The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.


Scope of Position

  • Provides direct supervision and leadership to Facility-DTAP maintenance team
  • Leads a group of hourly maintenance technicians sometimes supplemented by contract support in the asset care of facility and DTAP-critical systems.
  • Provides leadership for administrative maintenance systems that support maintenance efforts, including the site CMMS, daily rounds software, and safety procedures and processes (LOTO, hot work).
  • Serve as the site DTAP leader, act as the link into CDT and CSM DTAP organizations for the plant
  • Provide input and support in the development and installation of standardized asset protection systems during line rebuilds
  • Ensure site emergency response procedures follow division standards
  • Ensure facility operations follow same PCPD principles as production


Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Leads team in insuring facility and DTAP systems are proactively maintained with a high degree of compliance with preventive/predictive key performance indicators.
  • Plan and schedule work for the hourly group of MMAs
  • Counsel and support MMAs in their day-to-day responsibilities and work.
  • Set clear objectives and support work-up role and contingent engineer in their responsibilities.
  • Lead team in championing the daily rounds documentation system (eSOS).
  • Lead team in championing the site CMMS (Maximo).
  • Lead team in insuring PM procedures, DTAP function test scripts, and maintenance system documentation is up to date and clear and articulate in all cases.
  • Lead team in insuring DTAP function tests are performed well
  • Lead team in preparation of annual division DTAP audit; insure gap plan is documented and effectively utilized to drive continuous improvement.
  • Provide capital budget input for Facility and DTAP systems
  • Support cost reduction efforts with a focus in the facility and DTAP system areas
  • Maintains Emergency Response procedures (owns effective distribution of new and existing procedures)
  • Contributes to the development of Standard Facilities response priorities and procedures
  • Ensures understanding of division standards for the Process and the Maintenance/Facilities emergency response procedures, tools, and equipment
  • Maintains performance metrics and communicates progress and gaps appropriately
  • Ensures that Preventive Maintenance, Training, Certification, Drill and other pertinent information is recorded for audit purposes.
  •  Ensures that Standard Facility Setups and Guidelines are followed and audited (PCPD)
  • Ensures that all Practices and Procedures are complementary to standard CDT equipment procedures and guidelines
  • Participates in PPA, DA, and other rigorous methods to validate and approve equipment designs related to emergency response in the interest of asset protection
  • Attends DTAP meetings as appropriate, and reports out as needed on the HaKY DTAP readiness
  • Uses the HaKY Corrective Action system to document gaps as needed
  • Actively supports troubleshooting efforts of facility and DTAP systems


Travel Requirements:

  • 10% including domestic and international


Hours of work/work schedule/flextime:

  • Monday ‚ Friday, 8:00-5:00


Education and Experience:

  • BSEE, BSME, or BS Electro-Mechanical
  • 5 years of experience in maintenance or operations engineering with emphasis on emergency planning and response
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a maintenance or production environment
  • Demonstrated project leadership and coordination skills in improving, modifying, and upgrading existing infrastructure support systems
  • Experience in development and implementation of training programs for production personnel
  • Proficient with MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Outlook
  • Ability to develop, track and communicate shortfalls within the existing plant infrastructure as well as the potential impact of said shortfalls
  • Effective communication to upper management


Desired Skills:

  • Experience with DMAIC methodology (Green or Black Belt Preferred)
  • LEAN manufacturing experience
  • NFPA 70E arc flash compliance experience
  • Proficient in MS Project
  • Experience in a continuous glass melting production environment
  • Ability to positively interface with individuals of all levels both internally and externally
  • Ability to address multiple priorities and produce positive results in a fast-paced production environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
