Scope of Position:

• Primary focus will be controls improvement and support of production assets. This includes the designing, building, programming, testing, and debugging of automated process machines, kilns, and material handling systems within the facility.


Role within group:

• Member of cross-functional controls engineering team responsible for support and functionality enhancements required for advanced manufacturing process machine systems with a focus on safety and quality.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Serve as an Electrical Controls resource for development and troubleshooting of production equipment in the Firing areas of the Diesel Manufacturing facility in Painted Post NY.

• Initiate and maintain relationships with engineering, operations, and maintenance groups to provide new functionality as required by production needs.

• Machine support includes but not limited to safety controllers, PLCs/PACs, DCS’s, HMIs, robots, motion control, measurement systems, instrumentation, material handling systems, industrial networks, and computer system hardware/software application support for MES and data collection systems.

• Work utilizing plant & division electrical controls standards.

• Serve as a technical resource for questions regarding deviation and interpretation as well as managing changes during off shift activities.

• Individual must be capable of executing assignments, in a team-based environment, with minimal supervision.

• Must be capable of communicating effectively to Operations and Leadership concerning the benefits and risks of Engineered solutions.


Hours of work/work schedule/flextime:

• Primary working hours are 8AM-5PM M-F

• Hours may occasionally flex as required to achieve plant production objectives. Off shift support will occasionally be required for emergencies to maintain operations of critical assets.


Required Education:

• BS - electrical engineering or equivalent


Required Years and Area of Experience:

• 3-10 years of engineering experience with demonstrated success designing, developing and implementing robust state of the art controls solutions using machine/ motion control systems, flexible automation, robotics systems, and electro-mechanical systems into manufacturing.


Required Skills:

• High level of technical curiosity that will enable unique solutions to the technical challenges incumbent to the position. Ability and interest to learn, and apply, new technologies in support of overall technical objectives.

• Fundamental understanding of electrical design practices, machine / motion control systems, electro-mechanical systems, robotics, programming, and system integration

• Demonstrated knowledge of control systems design, programming, and systems integration with understanding of open loop and closed loop control systems.

• Familiar with state-of-the-art technologies in the following areas: control system integration, control system architectures, PLCs/PACs, motion control systems, electro-mechanical drive systems, robotics, part sensing, vision, risk assessment, and safety systems

• Ability to work in both a team and as an individual contributor

• Possesses an understanding of general mechanics and ability to apply it in troubleshooting and system design

• Sound problem solving and decision-making processes and skills

• Highly motivated, results oriented, customer focused, with a high commitment level


Desired Skills:

• Rockwell Logix5000/Studio5000 experience

• Allen-Bradley PLC/PAC, motion control, VFD and safety hardware

• Honeywell Experion DCS

• Computer science skills in hardware, software

• Vision inspection systems (Cognex, Keyence, etc.)

• Fanuc Robot experience

• AGV’s or SGV’s

• Prior experience working in a manufacturing environment.

• Prior experience working with kilns and pollution control equipment

• Knowledge of NFPA70,79,70E,86, ISO13949, ANSI1506
