Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The global Information Technology (IT) Function is leading efforts to align IT and Business Strategy, leverage IT investments, and optimize end to end business processes and associated information integration technologies. IT also delivers Information Technology applications, infrastructure, and project services in a cost-efficient manner to Corning worldwide.

 

Software development, data, automation and advanced analytics capabilities are drastically transforming research and manufacturing beyond labs and point process automation to modeled, systemic, highly contextualized and data driven systems. Corning is building and adopting the foundational digital capability for these company-wide efforts, and are looking for a passionate, hard-working, and talented digital lead that will lead several teams in the advanced analytics and application development space to produce tangible outcomes as products for the enterprise.

 

The Nerve Center is responsible for the management of all portfolio processes and value capture for digital activities across the corporation, we are also leading the corporate culture shift to a digital mindset while standing up an Agile Center of Excellence. We are also responsible for the analytics and reporting of key process metrics for Emerging Technologies.

 

As a core member of the Nerve Center Emerging Technologies team, we are looking for a talented and motivated UX designer who can hit the ground running and integrate with value acceleration teams and Pattern software developers. As a member of our team, your main responsibility will be envisioning and leveraging the user experience of our applications. This role will engage with the larger organization to help individuals understand the role and value of human centered design in a larger communications and design practice. As an UI designer, you’ll focus on translating user needs and business goals into designs and working with the larger team Corning Restricted to ensure those designs reflect aspirations and standards. Desired candidate has strong portfolio of relevant work.

 

Responsibilities:

• Identify the needed research methods, create research plans, and present the results in a structure way using personas or journey maps.

• Structure and conduct effective interviews to reveal user needs and pain points.

• Plan, execute, assess, and present usability tests and heuristic evaluations.

• Organize content in a coherent information architecture.

• Create and communicate task flows.

• Build high-quality features across the entire tech stack - frontend and backend

• Collaborate in a cross-functional team with product owners, designers, and partners to implement the product and technology roadmap

• Propel the evolution of the codebase for higher quality, scalability, and agility

• Operate in an agile DevOps environment where teams deliver value multiple times a day

• Create interactive prototypes to demonstrate and test design solutions.

• Work from and contribute to our design system and UI pattern library.

 

Education, Experience, and Licensing:

• Bachelor’s degree required

• Minimum of 6+ years’ consistent track record as a successful UX/UI designer with a strong portfolio of past projects

• Ability to provide portfolio of work examples

• Demonstrated experience with Design Thinking methodologies and customer centric approaches

• Knowledge in prototyping tools: Axure, Justinmind, UXPin, Figma or Adobe XD, etc.

• Knowledge in design tools: Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, etc.

• Great capacity to communicate ideas and convince people.

• Creative, autonomous, and resourceful.

 

Other Qualifications:

• Up-to-date knowledge of UX best practices (prototyping, visual design,

• Understand established and evolving standards as well as best practices for human[1]computer interactions.

• Understand the opportunities and limitations of the technology that will express the design solution.

• Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast paced, collaborative environment.

• Strong verbal/written communication skills (English)
