Purpose of the Position:

Corning Pharmaceutical Technologies (CPT) develops glass packaging solutions for the pharmaceutical industry. Various assessments are necessary to ensure product performance and reliability in our customers’ processes. This position will lead and deliver product performance understanding, including the practical performance measures, development of related measurements, tests, and models. Responsibilities include leading technical groups made up of research scientists, development scientists, engineers, and other subject matter experts, and functioning as the organization’s product performance expert. Technology scope includes equipment design, product performance process metrics, mechanical responses, glass chemical strengthening, and glass coatings. Growth path to manager role.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Lead product performance understanding projects and related measurement development.
  • Define project needs collaboratively with internal customers including research, development application engineering, division engineering, manufacturing, quality, and commercial.
  • Develop fundamental understanding links between product performance and product attributes.
  • Leverage expertise across Corning’s Science and Technology and other business organizations.
  • Document project scope, objectives, and results.
  • Communicate results in various forums to leadership and customers.
  • Assess product reliability risks 8. Work in lab and plant environments in various roles: individually, as a project team member, and as a project leader.


Education & Experience: Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field. 7+ years in research or development with metrology/characterization and project leadership experience.


Required Skills:

  • Dynamic mechanical analysis.
  • Process engineering.
  • Problem solving and characterization of complex systems.
  • Reliability tools – FMA, FMEA, FRACAS, life model development, etc.
  • Design of experiments.
  • Data analysis.
  • Leading and managing cross functional teams.
  • Defining and leading projects.
  • Concise communication/presentation of technology to leadership and external parties.


Desired Skills:

  • Pharmaceutical filling line process and design knowledge.
  • Fundamental understanding of material strength and fracture mechanics.
  • Ph.D. preferred.


Soft Skills:

  • Team player who leverages collaboration within and across organizational boundaries.
  • Excellent communication – verbal, presentation, and written.
  • Ability to flex work approach to engage the spectrum of research to manufacturing.
  • Able to identify and balance long and short-term priorities to achieve goals.


Travel Requirements: Variable but expectation is <15%
