Purpose of the Position:

Scientist/engineer responsible for glass process development related to Mobile Consumer Electronics (MCE) market. Developing new technologies and processes leveraging fundamental understanding of underlying principles in solid mechanics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics. Technology delivery to manufacturing leveraging research, development, and engineering organizations. Potential to become a subject matter expert and lead technology development. In this position, you will also have special access to confidential and other highly sensitive information. In accepting this position, you will be required to sign a non-compete agreement that extends for 2 (two) years after termination of your employment. 


Day to Day Responsibilities:


  • Execute process technology development projects on MCE manufacturing units, focusing on US, Europe & Asia.
  • Identify critical challenges in development/production trials. Timely communication of technology gap and production need. Implementation of fundamental learning.
  • Use defined processes and scientific methods, including numerical simulation and lab scale testing. Utilize risk management tools for critical problem solving.
  • Design and execute experiment in a prototype and pilot manufacturing platform, analyzing data, and drawing conclusions.
  • Collaborate with others process experts in and outside the organizations. Participate on cross functional teams.
  • Document results and capture IP.


Education & Experience: B.S. / M.S. degree in technical/engineering (material science, chemical, mechanical) field. Academic research experience preferred, including undergraduate research experience.


Required Skills:

  • Knowledge/experience in strength of material, heat transfer mechanisms, thermal and structure analysis and able to climb up the learning curve on glass forming material model quickly.
  • Strong academic background, able to conduct and analyze process experiments using first principles and basic modeling tools, apply critical thinking and engineering principles to solve complex problems.
  • Able to work on process development and new technology equipment implementation in manufacturing environment.
  • Effective communications in the team and up the organization. Articulating a plan and gaining consensus with team.


Desired Skills:

  • Able to learn project management tools, MEE, KT analysis or similar tool.
  • Having knowledge and experience working in diverse team environment.
  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed organization.


Soft Skills:

  • Result driven, Self-motivated, Technical curiosity with willingness to learn.
  • Uses an analytical, engaging thought process.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Able to communicate in Korean / French language is a plus.


Work Schedule: Core hours 8 AM to 5PM, and periodic evening conference meeting.


Travel Requirements: 30% average travel, both Domestic and International (Europe & Asia).
