Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group):

Glass Technical leadership from research and development through manufacturing and delivery of glass technologies needed for novel glass products:

‒ Lead glass composition and processes development to deliver various glass product configurations

‒ Leading global initiatives to delivering new glass technologies (composition, melting, forming, finishing) from research through manufacturing

‒ Foster working partnership with manufacturing, research as well as the broader program team

‒ Transfer of new products and processes to manufacturing and receiving new glass composition, melting forming, and post processing from research

‒ Glass Technology SME supporting delivery of the strategy for glass product lines

‒ Determine implications of glass process platform(s) relative to glass product requirements for product lines in collaboration with glass finishing SMEs where appropriate

‒ Deliver recommendations and actionable plans for long term advantage

‒ Comparative competitive glass evaluation


Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Leadership and execution of experiment plans in support of overall technology delivery

• Hands-on technical work as necessary in support of development programs and strategic projects

• Work with highly capable technician team and support organizations to complete high priority experiments

• Engagement & integration of RDE across multiple organizations and global locations

• Required interactions with research, development and engineering


Travel Requirements (please note if international):

Domestic and some international travel required (25-30% to support RDE integration of technologies and customer engagements)


Education and Experience (minimum required for consideration)

1. Ph.D. Material Science (Glass Science focus)

2. 3-5 years of industrial R&D experience Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 40+, flex-time


Required Skills (These are skills that candidates MUST possess)

1. Demonstrated ability to do hands-on technical work; willing and able to lead modeling and experiment problem solving and troubleshooting by example.

2. Demonstrated experience leading through technology trade-off and implementation decisions resulting in commercialized products

3. Demonstrated technology development leadership, execution, and delivery experience.

4. Experience in leading cross-functional and diverse technology work streams and teams.

5. Strong knowledge of and experience working with a variety of glass and glass-ceramic families, glass melting and forming processes.

6. Ability to identify the critical path on complex and convoluted initiatives


Desired Skills (These are skills that would be nice for candidates to possess)

1. Experience interacting with international partners, CMs, vendors and customers.

2. Experience managing across and interacting with multi-site/multi-organization global teams.

3. FMEA and manufacturing excellence expertise and experience

4. Knowledge of and ability to influence and contribute to Quality architecture

5. Demonstrated experience in working with customers to define customer needs/requirements, and providing customer product support.
