Scope of Position:

The CWTC SHE Manager will be responsible for implementation of all SHE programs at Corning West Technology Center (CWTC). This will include Lab Management, Training, Communication, Management of Compliance obligations, Waste Management, Records, and ISO14001. The manager will work with Corning Incorporated’s SHE departments as well as local SHE consultants to cover these areas.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Lab Management
  • Management of Change o Lab changes – review, approve, and document. o Chemical Approvals – manage and improve process
  • Site inspections
  • Safety equipment inspections
  • Annual assessments
  • Chemical Inventory, including SDS management Training
  • Keep up to date on all training for staff, schedule classroom classes when needed
  • Schedule and carry out emergency drills
  • Onboarding of new and transferred employees
  • Review and update course content. Communication
  • Liaison between building management firm and Corning for all things related to SHE
  • Facilitate Interaction with Corning Legal, Corporate SHE, and S&T SHE
  • Host and develop content for staff meetings
  • Primary point of contact for SHE questions. Manage Compliance Obligations
  • Keep all permits current o ISO14001, Alarm use permit, Fire and Hazmat Permit, Medical Waste, EPA ID, Compressed air tank.
  • Manage required regulatory submissions (HMBP, Haz Waste Manifests, etc.)
  • Review of local, State, Federal regulations and applicability to CWTC
  • OSHA reporting, including incidents and follow ups. Waste Management: Hazardous, Medical, and Non-hazardous Waste management Records, Policies, Documentation • Monitor and continually improve Documents and Records and where stored. • Apply DARM policies and ensure compliance.
  • Manage updates of key documents that comprise CWTC’s SHE programs.
  • ISO14001

  • Update records and documentation
  • Plan and lead Internal and External Audits
  • Work with CWTC SHE team, S&T team, leadership, and CWTC employees to implement Environmental Management System.


Education and Experience:

BS (MS preferred) in SHE-related field (Environmental Science, Occupational Health/Safety, Environmental Engineering, safety or related subject or Industrial Engineering)


Required Skills:

  • Knowledge of OSHA/CalOSHA/EPA/calEPA/ISO14001 and other relevant regulations and standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Experience integrating aspects of EH&S management into overall facilities
  • Handles time and resources effectively to meet deadlines
  • Solid computer skills
  • Information Utilization and ability to use electronic databases, applications, and storage.
  • Ability to leverage internal and external resources
  • Facilitate and provide guidance and expertise for the development of a world class SHE culture within the facility.


Desired Skills:

  • Experience with SHE management in an R&D environment
  • Experience with Gensuite and CisPro Soft Skills (Communication/Team/Leadership):

  • Effective management of competing priorities based on risk
  • Demonstrated experiences in developing and deploying Safety Strategy and associated tactical plans to deliver targeted results.
