Scope of Position: Work with or lead a diverse team of engineers and scientists on experiments and product prototypes. Most of the work will be interdisciplinary. Contribute to, lead or initiate projects with deep scientific content that will lead to novel technologies or products for Corning.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Designing, building, testing and debugging of prototypes and lab experiments. Initiate projects that will ultimately lead to Corning products. Contribute to or lead teams of engineers and scientists.

 

Travel requirements:

• Rare, mostly domestic

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

• 5-day, 40-hour work week

 

Required Education:

• PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering or related field. Alternatively, MS with 5-10 years of work experience

 

Required Skills:

• Proven proficiency in design and construction of experimental hardware/prototypes.

• Interdisciplinary background/experience in fields such as materials science, physics, optics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, chemistry or bioscience/engineering.

• Programming experience (C, Python, etc.)

 

Desired Skills:

• Wireless design and related laboratory measurements.

• Signal processing • Optical design

• Experience with chemical or bio instrumentation design and testing with emphasis on sensing mechanisms.

• Track record of taking on new challenges requiring learning new subjects.

• Computer modeling

 

Soft Skills:

• Good spoken and written communication skills

• Flexible team player

• High level of initiative

• Good organizational skills
