Scope of Position:

• A member of a plant facilities department that will run individual electrical and controls projects as well as work on project teams. The work takes place within a high-quality specialty glass manufacturing plant.

• Member of design and construction teams overseeing electrical and controls aspects of facility renovations, construction, and implementation.

• Researches, develops, designs, specifies, reviews, analyzes, and/or commissions electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for manufacturing and industrial purposes.

• Designs, plans, and supports installation of electrical power generation, distribution, transfer, and storage within the manufacturing facility.

• Ensures compliance to building codes, regulating agencies, and internal and external customer requirements, and corporate standards.

• Provides visible leadership to coordinate, schedule, and communicate project activities.

• Provides firm leadership to ensure a safe work environment and adherence to plant, corporate and national safety requirements.

• Ensures minimal process disruption to operations during construction, maintenance, or project related activities.

• Influences long-term thinking and planning when engaged in reviewing proposed facility changes or improvements.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Electrical Engineering for existing or new electrical and controls systems including capacity analysis, sizing, specification, design, equipment/vendor/contractor selection, material sourcing, procurement, fabrication, testing, shipment, and installation/commissioning.

• Design and implement monitoring, control, or data acquisition systems for manufacturing facilities (i.e., HVAC, process water, utilities, process gases), and / or production equipment.

• Develop control systems (e.g., PLC), communications, and software and/or use applications to support manufacturing and analysis of facilities, equipment, products, processes, and experiments.

• Design or implement new or enhanced equipment capabilities.

• Troubleshoot, test, monitor, calibrate, adjust, test, and maintain facilities and equipment, components, devices, or systems.

• Leads electrical implementation and adherence to safety programs and standards including live electrical, LOTO, arc flash, and PPE.

• Delivers strong project leadership skills through the project initiation, planning, implementation, and closeout phases.

• Develops project concepts, scope, cost estimates, and schedules for new and existing projects.

• Works from schematics, engineering drawings, and written or verbal instructions.

• Exercise good judgment, sound engineering principles, and utilize structured problem-solving techniques.

• Lead, guide, coach & help develop internal Corning & contingent employees as well as external contractors.

• Actively work and participate in project teams in various roles and capacities.

• Collaborate with manufacturing operations, scientists, and process specialists as part of the engineering process to observe and maintain infrastructure and equipment.


Required Education:

• We require a Bachelor of Science, Electrical Engineering or higher.


Required Skills:

• We require 5+ years of engineering and professional work experience working in a manufacturing environment.

• Working knowledge of National Electric Code, OSHA, NFPA 79, and NFPA 70E, including overload protection, fault current analysis, and arc flash analysis.

• Solid understanding of electrical and control systems, systems programming, logic and process control, programming, and communication.

• Hands on experience with computers, IT systems and architecture, controls communications, motion control systems, PLC programming, and data acquisition.

• Experience with advanced control theory, calibration and standards, and design and safety codes.

• Construction, facility system knowledge & experience.


Desired Skills:

• Proficient in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar CAD software

• MS Project or equivalent scheduling software

• Electrical utility, grid, and power distribution understanding

• Power, load flow, short circuit, and arc flash analysis

• Metering and data collection for utilities, power, and process gases

• Able to provide hands-on trouble shooting and problem solving for electrical and control systems

• Proficiency with Rockwell/Allen Bradley, Siemens, Kepware, OSI PI, and similar systems

• Familiarity with multiple network and building/process automation protocols

• Problem solving skills and the use of structured methods, such as, K-T (DA, PPA, RA), DESGN, DMAIC, and LEAN

• Proficiency with MS Office (Work, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) & SharePoint

• Project estimating, forecasting, and scheduling experience

• Excellent project leadership and management skills

• Lean manufacturing and construction techniques

Travel Requirements:

•  < 10%

• Most travel is limited to immediate surrounding area

• Occasional domestic travel to suppliers, contractors, or other Corning locations.


Hours of Work:

• Normal Business Hours (8 – 5, M – F): however, expected to work hours required to achieve objectives

• Includes overtime, weekend, and off-shift hours.

• Flexibility is required
