Job Summary:

Assist the HSE Manager in planning, development, evaluation and continual improvement of the HSE Management System[s] in achieving and promoting a sustainable world-class environmental, health and safety performance for the Corning Life Science Distribution Centre’s.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute toward the co-development, review and implementation of HSE programs/procedures to ensure effectiveness and adherence to Corporate, regulatory and ISO-related requirements.
  • Coordinate and participate in audits as well as ensure compliance requirements e.g. procedures, permits, training records, chemical and product inventory are maintained in the HSE Management Systems.
  • Monitor, assess and communicate changes in legislation that may impact the HSE Management Systems. 
  • Assist in establishing and tracking HSE objectives as well as ensuring goals are achieved.
  • Maintain and analyse HSE data as well as provide monthly management reports specific to, but not limited to KPI’s, incidents, CAPA status, waste streams, energy usage, emissions, etc.
  • Prepare and provide in-house training to relevant stakeholders specific to program or regulatory requirements. E.g. HIRA, RCA, MOC, emergency preparedness.
  • Assist in the implementation and provide in-house training to relevant stakeholders on the Corporate-wide Gensuite platform EHS software applications.
  • Support regular HSE, KPI Meetings as well as EMEA HSE-related initiatives.
  • Pro-actively determine areas of improvement which contribute toward risk reduction and sustainable HSE practices.
  • Support and review root cause analysis in the event of incidents as well as ensure adherence to incident reporting protocols.
  • Conduct or provide guidance on risk assessments as well as ensure for the application, implementation and timely closure of the appropriate control mechanisms.
  • Support and monitor MOC practices which require HSE governance. E.g. environmental impact assessments, permitting, contractor safety management. 

Required skills:

  • Ability to complete projects and assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to define problem areas, collect, interpret and evaluate data and draw valid conclusions as well as the ability to use the appropriate software applications for monthly  Management Reports. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate with and present information to management, authorities and other third parties.
  • Ability to influence and motivate others via strong relationships to drive implementation of policies, procedures etc without direct authority.


Experience required:​​​​​​

  • Bachelor/Master in Life Sciences, Technical Studies, Business Administration or equivalent
  • Strong oral and written English and Dutch skills.
  • Excellent affinity with MS Office applications
  • Familiarity and experience with ISO-certified management systems (i.e. Plan-Do-Check-Act methodology)
  • Familiarity and experience with Dutch Labor Law/RI&E, Dutch environmental degrees.
  • Excellent communication skills: able to clearly communicate HSE information in an easy-to-understand manner; able to deliver content effectively – written and verbally.
  • Ability to work independently and function as team member.
  • Experience with multicultural matrix organization.
