Purpose of position

The Health, Safety and Environment Manager shall execute the functional responsibilities related to health, safety and environmental areas within the EMEA Distribution Center; supervise the HSE function; be responsible to maintain compliance with all applicable environmental and safety laws; be responsible for the implementation of CORNING’s safety policies, procedures, and methods; be cognizant of the issues and challenges facing the organization and coordinate the strengths, resources, and capabilities to achieve the organization’s goals and objectives; and demonstrate a knowledge-sharing behavior with the overall objective of helping to create and sustain a interdependent work culture and uncompromised commitment to the protection of the employees and the environment.

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

The Health, Safety and Environment Manager (HSE Manager) will be responsible for the following:

 

Responsibilities:

  • Directs and promotes the organization in building and engaging in a proactive and interdependent safety culture.
  • Ensures that the EHS management systems are compliant with EHS policies, guidelines, regulations, applicable standards and instructions
  • Support the organization’s management in setting EHS objectives
  • Managing internal and external audits and certifications related to the EHS Management Systems
  • Manages the EHS Specialist in the implementation of EHS policies and mission
  • Mentors and coaches functional Subject Matter Experts on their safety programs with particular emphasis on warehouse and distribution programs such as material handling, powered industrial vehicles, ergonomics, etc].
  • Serve as EHS subject matter expert and provide information to management about EHS related performance, issues and status of the EHS management systems in regards to effectiveness and compliance
  • Provide recommendations to management for process improvements and decision proposals
  • Manages and reviews site hazard assessments, identifies unsafe acts/conditions or unsafe behaviors, provides support, guidance and recommendations for corrective action to management team
  • Ensures development and delivery of all EHS related training and maintains EHS records in accordance with record retention policy
  • Participates, prepares and presents safety communications in company and customer meetings
  • Manages and creates safety and environmental related documents, policies and procedures for the company
  • Supports emergency response team and emergency preparedness actions for the organization
  • Directs, manages and provides expertise for incident investigations, case management, near misses, environmental and/or equipment damage and reports incidents for the site
  • Ensures allreporting as it related to environmental and safety incidents, near misses, injuries, etc. for the site is completed in a timely manner
  • Manages incident statistical data and safety program data in EHS company Database

 

Qualification or Skills Required:

  • Minimum 5 years’ practical experience as an EHS Manager developing and implementing EHS programs.
  • Bachelor of Science degree is required. Specialization in Occupational Safety or Health, Safety Engineering, Safety Science, or Environmental Health is preferred.
  • Lead Auditor according to ISO 19011 is preferred
  • Experience with Netherlands and European legislation/regulations applicable for EHS
  • Experience with management systems compliant to standards OHSAS 18001 (or ISO 45001) and ISO 14001
  • Experience performing internal workshop/site audits and EHS management system audits
  • Commitment to working safely. Must have the desire to assist the company in promoting a healthy, incident free workplace.
  • Must be able to communicate with management as well as with employees of all levels in the organization to help ensure clear understanding of company EHS guidelines, rules, policy, and procedures.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of Gensuite (EHS Database to manage and track EHS programs, incidents, action plans, etc) is preferred
  • Travel within the region is required, with some international (up to 5% for training and special projects)

Pay Grade: Grade C
