Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Position Overview:
This role provides electrical and controls engineering expertise to support the introduction of new equipment, improve existing systems, reduce costs, maintain operations, and enhance productivity. It involves working with external partners to successfully deliver automation solutions that meet performance, budget, and timeline expectations. The candidate will oversee all phases of a project—from design and fabrication to installation, production startup, training, and technology transfer. Acting as an internal expert, they will guide control system integration, sensor applications, and electro-mechanical device implementation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide engineering expertise for automation and process optimization in manufacturing operations.
- Collaborate with external system integrators and machine builders to ensure successful equipment implementation.
- Lead project phases, including design, installation, and plant personnel training.
- Act as a technical resource for control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, motion control, and machine vision.
- Ensure proper documentation of control engineering projects, adhering to industry standards.
- Solve automation challenges and support engineering teams in refining system requirements.
- Develop control architectures and integration strategies tailored to manufacturing needs.
- Execute and manage projects in a team-oriented environment with minimal supervision.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering. A master's or Ph.D. in relevant fields can substitute for required experience.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in electrical or controls engineering.
Required Skills:
- Strong knowledge of electrical design, control system integration, electro-mechanical drive systems, and safety principles.
- Hands-on experience with PLC and HMI programming.
- Proficiency in machine vision systems and robotics (Fanuc).
- Expertise in designing and programming motion control systems.
- Ability to read, update, and troubleshoot electrical schematics.
- Capability to conduct machine safety risk assessments.
- Experience in electrical control panel design and troubleshooting.
- Effective communicator with strong project management skills.
- Results-driven mindset with a customer-focused approach.
- Prior experience transitioning a new product or process into a manufacturing environment.
- English language proficiency (85%+).
Desired Skills:
- Familiarity with Beckhoff, Omron, and Allen-Bradley PLC and HMI programming.
- Knowledge of SISTEMA evaluations and SCADA systems (GE iFix, Ignition, or similar).
- Experience with AutoCAD for electrical design.
