Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

Purpose of Position: Provide Manufacturing Engineering support at Contract Manufacturing locations for Telecommunication products. Own and manage developing, transferring and sustaining products and processes into internal and external manufacturing facilities.

 

Major Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Liaison as the first line of contact for all manufacturing issues
  • Manage NPI transfer into CM. Develop, review and transfer processes for NPI – New Product Introduction.
  • Drive product, process, test and inspection improvements and manufacturing processes.
  • Develop, evaluate, deploy and enforce manufacturing documentation and readiness at manufacturing sites. Manage BOM’s for current products.
  • Support product and process transfers to CM from OCS by working closely with Technology, Division Engineering.
  • Analyze and drive product, process, test and quality improvements.
  • Identify gaps in manufacturing capabilities and recommend and implement changes for improvement.
  • Analyze and develop manufacturing capacity model and formulate plans to overcome gaps in capacity.
  • Develop and execute manufacturing Cost Reduction portfolio.
  • Manage manufacturing projects such as Product transfers, process improvements, quality improvements, and cost reduction.

 

Travel: Up to 30% travel. Includes travel in domestic and overseas

 

Minimum Education, Skill and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of manufacturing experience in Telecom, Consumer, Defense or Automotive industry sectors.
  • Minimum 5 years of combined experience in developing, transferring and sustaining Product Designs into Manufacturing, preferably Contract Manufacturing
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in managing production for ensuring Quality, Cost and delivery metrics.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in project management of medium scale projects, preferably in manufacturing environment.

 

Desired Experience:

  • Experience in Product Data Management for multilevel BOM in platforms such as Agile, Oracle, SAP or Windchill
  • Experience with contracting manufacturing
  • Experience in quality management, process management and production management
  • Experience in product structuring , process development, process evaluation, quality management, process management and production floor
  • Experience in developing and managing Cost Reduction projects
  • Project management skills in transferring Product, Process and Test from design to manufacturing.
  • Strong communication and flexibility to work with multiple cultures and time zones.
  • High initiative, self-motivation and ability to work in multinational, matrix organization.
