Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.


Job Title: Product Development Technician Department: OCS Technology- Product Development Scope of Position: Work with development engineers, CAD resources, and other functional team members to validate product designs intended for indoor or outdoor applications by preparing prototype assemblies. Support voice of customer and testing efforts by building prototype mock-ups and test samples, offering constructive feedback on product design & usage. Apply process technical knowledge, skills, and experience to generate usage instructions and recommendations. Ensure laboratory equipment and supplies are maintained in good working order to maximize efficiency and safety for all personnel who use the lab. Manage project tasks under appropriate supervision and direction from responsible engineer or supervisor.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with engineers and technicians to design and develop new product solutions for Optical Communications products.

• Carry out experimental trials by setting up manufacturing equipment and fixtures, performing experimentation, data collection and analysis, and delivering reports & documentation.

• Support project teams and the definition of project deliverables and timelines.

• Collaborate with internal and external suppliers to determine functional requirements.

• Support activities to solve problems and implement product improvements based on fundamental understanding.

• Preparation and shipment of prototype products.

• Assembly and testing of products to support development activities.

• 5S activities for Technology Laboratory, and preparation for 5S and Environmental Audits.

• Maintain and improve a safe work environment.


Education: • Minimum 2-year degree preferred or equivalent experience.


Work Experience: • 2 years of experience in Product Development Environment, working with mechanical / optical assemblies


Required Skills:

• Technical background in manufacturing processes.

• Demonstrated and applied mechanical aptitude.

• Ability to clearly express technical ideas.

• Self-motivated and able to work independently.

• Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects / activities.

• Good communication skills, both written and verbal.

• Proficient with MS Office applications: Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint, Outlook.

• Results oriented.

• Ability to interpret drawings and schematics

• Foreign languages skills: English (reading, listening, and writing)


Desired Skills:

• Bachelor of Science Degree

• Experience on product design using CAD software.

• Experience with NPI process.

• Problem solving techniques.

• SAP and Windchill fundamentals.

• Capable of performing data analysis using MS excel (SPC)
