Within the Forming Research group of the Process Research, Development & Engineering division at our site located in Fontainebleau (77), we are looking for an R&D Engineer – Innovation in Thermo-Mechanical Processes (permanent position).
Role Purpose
Provides technical and fundamental understanding for products and process attributes. Reviews experiment designs, conducts experiments and reviews results against customer specifications and potential for cost reduction, process improvements, etc. for the business. Recognized as an expert in an area of science or technology. Documents and communicates project or experiment results. Provides the analytical tools to support business projects, manufacturing sites and competitive analysis
Key Responsibilities
- Develops and applies key fundamental knowledge to critical product attributes and impact on production process
- Assists in assessing root cause and long term issues with manufacturing upsets
- Designs and runs experiments, analyzes the data, and gives inputs and recommendations based on findings
- Maintains and operates state of art lab
- Supports new product concepts through testing, prototypes, etc
- Provides technical leadership in troubleshooting
- May supervise direct reports
- Mentors technicians and entry level engineers
- Identifies and prioritizes necessary tools and resources
- Serves as a technical lead on teams and/or provides technical expertise to project teams
- May collaborate with marketing to get customer requirements and needs as well as feedback
- Develops conceptual designs and specifications for systems
- Participates in the innovation process and provides technical expertise on a project team
- Documents findings and communicates learnings through RTR Reports
- May work independently or with cross-functional teams to design and test equipment

** For example: R-Reports, NTRs, knowledge retention database reports, engineering-reports, posters, technical presentations, user guides, SOPs, etc.
*** For example: characterization technique, measurement system, model, patent application, data management /data engineering system, invention disclosure, process or product innovation, trade secret, or software asset, etc.
Experiences/Education - Desired
As part of the search for new products, your initial mission will be to invent, improve, and develop innovative manufacturing processes in collaboration with material experts, before transitioning into project management responsibilities.
The scope of application lies within the innovation chain, focusing on new processes or improvements to existing ones, with the aim of building knowledge and conducting critical experiments. It also includes involvement in development and pre-industrialization phases.
The role aims to strengthen a technical team that has a unique and global role within the company for our internal clients in the United States, Asia, and Europe.
We have significant digital and experimental resources at the Research Center site and can also benefit from the production facilities of our factories.
We are looking for high-potential candidates, preferably graduates from prestigious schools, with either a Ph.D. or at least three years of experience in industrial R&D.
Required knowledge and skills:
Knowledge in mechanics and an aptitude for practical implementations
Basic understanding of fluid mechanics and heat transfer would be an advantage
