Corning’s Display Technologies segment manufactures glass substrates for active matrix liquid crystal displays (“LCDs”) that are used primarily in LCD televisions, notebook computers and flat panel desktop monitors.

Major Responsibilities (Ongoing Tasks)

  • Lead strategic China customer technical engagements for innovation products
    • Responsible for China strategic engagements requiring deep technology engagement and promotion of Corning innovation capabilities
    • Strong collaboration with Account Managers and Application Engineering
    • Lead initial product and technical assessment for new collaboration proposals from customers (initial input through AE, CH commercial team)
      • Ensure clear articulation of customer product strategy, roadmap, capability, technical challenges, product requirements and competitive position
      • Support business case analysis as appropriate
      • Drive go / no go decision and ensure clear, transparent communication with customer
    • When required, lead collaboration across Commercial, RD&E to deliver key customer milestones
  • Responsible for understanding Display Innovation trends in China and translating into customer and industry technology roadmaps (2+ years)
    • Understand display innovation industry landscape through discussion with customers, industry leaders and trade show / conference attendance
    • Translate into cohesive customer and industry technology roadmaps to drive display innovation portfolio planning
  • Develop China market intelligence, critical customer knowledge and system level insights for value prop development to drive sustained competitive advantage for Display Innovation targeted products
    • Engage with display industry value chain players to gather market intelligence, align with our internal roadmap and gather competitive intel
    • Gain understanding of innovative display system level performance/requirements and interactions with Corning display products
    • Develop and validate value proposition that delivers met/unmet customer needs and differentiates Corning innovative display products
  • For identified new product programs:
    • Articulate the product requirements (spec, target) vs customer need and competitive position as well as roadmap – what matters when and why
    • Help develop and promote the value proposition
    • Align with research and development teams on product enhancements and technical service offerings
    • Lead technical interaction with customers to get new product offerings designed in; resolving technical issues as they arise

 

Other significant responsibilities

  • Act as key liaison between China customers and CDT organizations
  • Establish process for communicating China regional information to CDT organizations
  • Develop strong communication network internal to Corning
  • Network across all key positions that work to support customers

 

Job Specifications – Qualifications

Education level required (qualifications and disciplines)

MS in science and engineering discipline; preference for PhD in the area of glass, optics, material science or mechanical engineering

 

Experience

Minimum of 5 years of track record in combination of technology and commercia roles (LCD and its ecosystem industries experiences best) 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

  • Knowledge
  • Process driven problem-solving skills (e.g. KT, project management… etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of LCD, LCM and LED industry or semiconductor industry
  • Experience with Asian, especially the Chinese business culture.
