Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

We are seeking a highly skilled
Applications Engineer for Enterprise Networks EMEA (m/f/d)
to join our team in Berlin, Germany.
Scope of Position:
The Applications Engineer is responsible for representing Corning as a product and solution expert across the EMEA region while also contributing to the development of automation tools and solutions. This role combines a blend of internal and external responsibilities, requiring a candidate with a robust background in network architecture for Local Area Networks (LAN) and Data Center spaces, solid programming skills, and excellent communication abilities. The AE will develop a deep knowledge of Corning Optical Communications’ portfolio to deliver a quick and reliable support to our customers. The AE must understand the customer needs and promote the value of Corning solutions which meet those needs to achieve the highest profitability.
Key Responsibilities
- Generate/validate Bills of Materials (BOMs), Statements of Compliance and high-level diagrams to support project requirements.
- Create datasheets, system design, rack elevation drawings, technical papers and customer responses as needed.
- Collaborate with external partners and customers to ensure that optical fiber network designs align with Corning's product portfolio.
- Provide technical support and deliver training sessions, workshops and presentations on Corning products directly to end customers, installers, and distribution partners.
- Advise customers (internal or external) about products and their use in various applications. This includes explaining product benefits and determining detailed part number lists necessary for system solutions to fulfill customer RFQs (Request for Quote).
- Provide pre-sales and after-sales customer support including product recommendation, system design, system installation training, testing, and troubleshooting at customer site.
- Provide feedback to development/PLM (product line management) regarding new product evaluation, product improvements and compliance to regional standards and norms.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of new IT tools or solutions aimed at automating work processes and enhancing team efficiency.
Experiences/Education - Required
Required Education (minimum required for consideration): University Engineering Degree.
Required Years and Area of Experience (minimum required for consideration): Preferred Telecom, IT or Datacom: 2-5 years.
Required Skills:
- Strong English writing and speaking skills. Additional EMEA languages (German, French, Arabic, Spanish, Italian, etc) will be considered as a plus.
- Data Center or Telecom Network Design knowledge and related proven experience.
- Demonstrated Technical Support Experience (customer oriented, field solutions, timely responses).
- Ability to effectively communicate technical and complex ideas to both highly technical audiences and individuals with limited technical background.
- Comfortable working in cross-functional team environments and a willingness to collaborate and learn from others.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, Java, Visual Basic, or others.
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office365, SharePoint, Visio, Salesforce, SAP, Revu).
Experiences/Education - Desired
Desired Skills:
- Good hands-on skills: basic mechanical, troubleshooting, repair skills.
- Telecom active equipment configuration: Ethernet switches, Servers, Storage, IP routers, Transceivers, OLT/ONT, etc.
- Project Management skills or certifications such PMP, ACP, PRINCE2 or similar.
- Experience in creating demos and Proofs-of-concept solutions.
Travel Requirements: up to 25% of the working time as required.
Primarily continental Europe. However, candidate must be prepared to travel anywhere within EMEA region including Israel, US or Asia for support. Flexibility to travel on short notice requiring overnight stay. Must have proper Visas or EU citizenship to allow unrestricted travel. Candidate must possess current and valid local driving license and clean driving record to allow renting vehicles as required.
Hours of work/work schedule/flextime:
Minimum 40-hour week plus travel time as required. Some weekend work or travel required.
