Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

Job Purpose:

Corning Optical Communication is the company’s biggest division. EMEA is the second largest region in COC. This new role will sustain COC EMEA finance organization in the area of compliance. The EMEA compliance analyst will learn the SAP based month-end processes used in the entire EMEA region and will develop strong expertise with Corning’s internal controls/ compliance environment. At month-end, this new team member will be actively engaged with financial close, primarily to support smaller entities. During each month, a flexible rotational review/support program covering all EMEA entities will be defined with management.

This position requires strong financial accounting background, a first internal controls experience, solid ERP knowledge (ideally SAP), and high level of flexibility. The EMEA compliance analyst will report solid line to COC EMEA Manufacturing and legal entity controller (located in Berlin), as well as dotted line to COC compliance manager located in the USA. The compliance analyst will be ideally based in Berlin, with some travels within EMEA if conditions allow. The experience gained from that role will make a solid path to a broader finance position in the company.

 

Role Activities:

  • Provide accounting support to smaller entities during month end close
  • Ensure an effective internal control environment within Optical Communications Division through:
    •  Monitoring controls
    • Coaching/Advising/training
    • Testing controls
    • Managing the certification process
    • Special projects
  • Project Involvement:
    • Internal control improvement projects
    • Accounting process or new standard implementations
    • Business specific troubleshooting projects involving internal controls
  • Up to 20% travel, primarily international within EMEA region

 

Required Years and Area of Experience:

  • 4+ years of relevant work experience in external audit, or financial accounting
  • University degree in: Accounting, and/or Finance, or equivalent

 

Technical Skills:

  • Financial accounting experience desired (could be statutory auditing)
  • Strong IT skills: proficiency in Excel required. ERP knowledge is needed, ideally SAP
  • Sarbanes-Oxley or other internal control environment knowledge desired

 

Qualifications:

  • Successful track record of performance in a Finance role
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, process-oriented and organized a must
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills (including presentation)
  • Problem-solving oriented mindset
  • Comfortable working independently and managing multiple projects
  • Ability to manage flexible workload
