Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

ESG Compliance and Sustainability Reporting Lead (m/f/d)
Scope of Position
The Corporate ESG Compliance and Sustainability Reporting Lead is a key member of the newly formed Sustainability Center of Reporting Excellence (SCoRE) in Berlin responsible for monitoring global sustainability regulatory requirements, enabling external reporting and overall compliance. This is an individual contributor leadership role with no direct reports initially, but with significant cross-functional leadership responsibilities across a highly matrixed organization.
This role leads the design, development, and publication of external sustainability regulatory and disclosure reports, translating evolving requirements, including ESRS, into operational data, controls, and disclosures. The position partners closely with Finance Controls and Assurance, Regional Legal teams, and other key functions, including Ethics & Compliance, EH&S, Labor & Human Rights, Supplier Responsibility, GSM, and Sustainability Leads, to support compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and embed effective reporting and due diligence processes across the enterprise.
This role reports to the Global Director, Sustainability Reporting and Engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Governance, Operationalization & Cross-Functional Compliance Integration
- Build and manage project plans, timelines, and communication strategies to support delivery of required regulatory disclosures.
- Partner with IT to support the implementation of technology solutions for sustainability data management and reporting.
- Work closely with Finance, Controls, and Assurance teams to strengthen governance and internal control frameworks for non-financial reporting.
- Lead coordination of external assurance readiness activities to reduce risk of findings related to limited assurance opinions.
- Partner across Legal, Ethics & Compliance, EH&S, Labor & Human Rights, Procurement, and Sustainability teams to drive alignment on regulatory compliance requirements.
- Support the integration of RBA-related policies, procedures, and controls into business unit management systems.
- Work with business teams to develop and operationalize scalable processes to meet emerging regulatory and customer requirements.
- Partner with Procurement and other relevant stakeholders to establish due diligence processes needed to comply with regulations such as CSDDD, EUDR, and EUBR.
- Drive cross-functional coordination in a highly matrixed environment, influencing stakeholders without direct authority to ensure execution and compliance.
Regulatory Reporting, Disclosure & Applicability
- Support the development and vision of the Sustainability Reporting virtual plant
- Monitor evolving global, regional, and state-level sustainability regulations and assess applicability to the company’s operations and disclosure obligations.
- Collaborate in the design, development, and publication of external sustainability regulatory and disclosure reports.
- Translate regulatory frameworks, including ESRS, into practical reporting requirements, including data needs, controls, and disclosures.
- Develop reporting outputs to address specific regulatory requirements, such as Mexico, NYC, EUDR, CBAM, and other emerging mandates.
- Support the enterprise approach to sustainability reporting compliance by ensuring mandatory disclosure requirements are identified, interpreted, and addressed in a timely manner.
Experiences/Education - Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Engineering, Science, Business, or a related field.
- About 7+ years of experience leading sustainability, ESG, compliance, regulatory reporting, or operational excellence programs, preferably in a manufacturing or complex global operating environment.
- About 5+ years of direct experience in sustainability, ESG, compliance, or regulatory reporting.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and projects across regions and functions in a highly matrixed environment and influence stakeholders without direct authority.
- About 3+ years of experience partnering closely with Finance, Audit, Assurance, or Internal Controls functions.
- Demonstrated experience interpreting and operationalizing sustainability reporting, including frameworks such as ESRS and ISSB.
- Proven experience building processes to bring companies into compliance with regulations such as EUDR, CBAM, and EUBR.
- Strong project and program management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and stakeholder groups simultaneously.
- Ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical, scalable business processes, reporting structures, and control frameworks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
- Familiarity with emerging sustainability regulations related to the value chain due diligence requirements, including CSDDD.
- Strong understanding of internal controls, data governance, and audit or assurance readiness for non-financial reporting.
- Experience supporting external sustainability disclosures and regulatory reporting in a global organization.
- Experience working with reporting systems, data management tools, or technology implementations supporting sustainability reporting.

- Up to 25% global travel, with flexibility based on program cadence.
