Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Optical System Engineer (m/f/d)
Location: Berlin (Germany), Strykow (Poland) or Remote (EMEA)
Scope of Position
We are looking for an enthusiastic talented individual to join our ambitious EMEA team to drive innovation within Corning’s Optical Fiber and Cable business. The successful candidate will have an exciting opportunity to work on emerging optical transmission technologies and product solutions in collaboration with both technical and commercial functions including research, product development, product line management, and marketing. The candidate will also strongly liaise with and support the sales teams globally, acting as a Subject Matter Expert on long-haul premium optical fiber technology.
The Optical System Engineer reports to the EMEA Director, Cable PLM.

This role requires an individual who can translate complex transmission technologies into compelling business value, engage credibly with technical and executive audiences, and operate effectively within a global matrix organization. Technical Expertise & Systems Leadership

Recognized expert in long-haul optical transmission systems, network architectures, and fiber technologies.

Develop system-level analyses and transmission models to quantify network and economic benefits of premium fiber and cable solutions.

Assess emerging technologies and industry trends to identify strategic opportunities and risks.
Customer Engagement & Value Creation

Partner with global Sales teams to support strategic customer opportunities and major pursuits.

Develop and communicate compelling technical and economic value propositions.

Act as a trusted advisor to customers, consultants, and network operators.
Product & Market Strategy

Collaborate with Product Line Management to define product, market access, and growth strategies.

Provide customer, market, and technology insights that influence portfolio and investment decisions.

Monitor competitive developments and strengthen Corning's market differentiation.
Cross-Functional Influence

Serve as a bridge between Commercial, Product Line Management, Research, Technology, and Engineering.

Influence technology direction by translating customer requirements into actionable recommendations.

Support development of customer-facing tools, analyses, and value-selling content.
Industry Thought Leadership

Represent Corning through technical papers, white papers, webinars, conferences, and customer presentations.

Build relationships with key industry stakeholders and technology partners.

Establish Corning as a recognized leader in advanced optical transmission technologies.
Stakeholder Collaboration

Influence stakeholders across a global matrix organization through expertise and credibility.

Required Education & Experience
-
PhD in Optical Communications or Minimum of bachelor’s degree in the field of Electronic and/or Electrical Engineering, or Applied Physics with at least 3 years of relevant industry work experience

MBA preferred
Required Skills
-
Broad knowledge of optical fibers and optical transmission systems, including point-to-point systems, discrete and distributed optical amplifiers, and fiber nonlinearities.

Fluent in English, with strong written and verbal communication skills (Arabic is a plus).

A pro-active self-starter with “can-do” attitude. Ability to meet objectives with high degree of independence.

Willingness to travel internationally to attend conferences and internal/customer meetings.

Proven project management skills (planning, mobilizing people, driving action, managing progress, measuring performance).

Experience in product value proposition development and presenting them to customers and internal stakeholders.
