Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Optics Engineer (m/f/d)
Scope of Position
- Development and implementation of technologies for fiber optical and optoelectronic systems, components, subassemblies and connectivity solutions.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
- Participate in projects with worldwide impact on optical interconnects and fiber optics hardware.
- Product, process development and transfer to production, which includes component selection and evaluation based on customer requirements.
- Lead feasibility studies designed experiments (DOE’s), capability evaluation to identify key performance parameter.
- Optomechanical test and characterization of optical interconnects and subcomponents
- Participate in engineering design reviews.
- Evaluate semi-automated and automated assembly technologies.
- Write technical reports and specifications.
Education:
- Master's Degree, or similar, in Engineering, Physics or optics/optomechanics related discipline.
Requirements:
Required Skills:
- Fundamental knowledge in the field of:
- Optical connectors
- Passive optical components (e.g., PLC)
- Transmission systems for optical communication
- Optical fibers
- Photonic Integrated Circuits (e.g., SiP, InP, etc.)
- Semiconductor packaging
- Experience in optomechanical and optoelectrical design
- Experience in high precision alignment techniques
- Exceptional analytical skills
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Fluent English (spoken and written)
Desired Skills:
- PhD in optics related discipline.
- Knowledge in fiber optics and photonic integrated circuits
- 3-5 years prior experience in optical communication industry
- Experience in electrical design software (ProE, ANSYS, ZEMAX or similar)
- Experience in quality management of processes (Six sigma)
- Experience in programming (Python or similar)

- Ability to work unsupervised and schedule time effectively.
- Able to work across regional boundaries and cultures.
- Drive and commitment to implement new processes and products.
