Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

For our location in Berlin-Adlershof, Germany, we are looking for a
Precision Opto-/Mechanic Engineer (m/f/d)
Role Purpose
In this role, you will spearhead the development of innovative products and processes in the realm of optical connectivity solutions for the co-packaged optics market.
Your responsibilities will include:
- establishing and scaling processes for the construction, assembly, alignment, and integration of fiber opto-mechanical systems.
- You will focus on process development using semi-automated and automated alignment tools, transitioning from manual assembly to automation.
- This hands-on role requires you to take ownership from product development to hardware development, testing, and implementation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop procedures to scale in-house opto-mechanical connectivity solutions and processes from prototype to mass production.
- Design mechanical solutions, fixtures, and tools to integrate optical designs with precision and consistency.
- Establish and manage the precision alignment process of optical components and fibers, including methods, procedures, and software.
- Conduct tests and characterize optical performance, including process, equipment selection, and criteria for passing.
- Collaborate closely with the process engineering team to address physics-based interdependencies.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in optics/optical engineering, mechanical engineering, or physics.
- 5 years of experience in technical skills.
- Hands-on professional with opto-mechanical systems (construction, assembly, alignment, Die Bonder, pick and place, packaging, etc.)
- Familiarity with automated assembly processes, precision alignment and packaging techniques.
- CAD experience.
- Strong fundamentals in mechanical engineering and physics.
- Fluent English (spoken and written).
Desired Qualifications:
- Master's degree in optical engineering or mechanical engineering.
- Experience with Python and Zemax.
- Knowledge & experience with Optical Fiber / Fiber array units / Co-Packaged Optics.
- Create drawings that adhere to opto-mechanical GD&T standards.
- Knowledge of motion control and kinematics.
