Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Purpose of Position
- Lead technical efforts in our technology department to prototype, develop, test, and release new products and processes in optical connectivity and co-packaged optics.
- Develop new manufacturing methods for fiber optic connector solutions and transfer them to production.
- Drive innovation by building a fundamental scientific understanding to resolve technical problems.
Day to Day Responsibilities
- Implement new optical fiber connectivity products from concept through prototyping, implementation of assembly process and validation into production.
- Introduce innovations and new technologies to existing products and manufacturing processes.
- Demonstrates the ability to develop, implement, and qualify complex or advanced assembly processes with a high level of expertise in tools such as DFM, KT, DoE, Statistical Process Analysis, and Six Sigma.
- Execute root cause analysis to initiate process improvements.
- Transfer New Product Introductions (NPI) from the Technology team to the Engineering team, including component selection and evaluation based on customer requirements.
- Stay updated on new trends in fiber optic technologies.
- Document new ideas for potential patent submissions.
- Collaborate in international, multidisciplinary project groups.
Required Education & Skills
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Electronics, Material Engineering, or a related field.
- >3 years of professional experience and skills in building prototypes, transferring products and/or processes into production.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Creativity and a passion for innovation.
- Effective communication skills within multi-national groups.
- Fluent in English (spoken and written).
Desired Requirements & Soft Skills
- Knowledge and experience with Optical Fiber, Fiber Array Units, and Co-Packaged Optics.
- Knowledge of manufacturing process for optics, fibers, connectors and/or optical measurement equipment.
