Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

ROLE PURPOSE:

Own the FAU assembly and test process end to end, from NPI through high‑volume manufacturing (HVM), ensuring automation architecture, scalability, robust yield, and competitive cost.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Process Ownership & Manufacturing Strategy:
    • Serve as the single end‑to‑end process owner for FAU assembly and test from NPI to HVM
    • Define the process scalability roadmap covering volume, cost, and manufacturing footprint
    • Drive DfM/DfX feedback into FAU product design to ensure manufacturability at scale
  • Automation Architecture & Deployment:
    • Act as Automation Architect for FAU assembly and test, defining the end‑to‑end automation concept (manual → semi‑automated → fully automated)
    • Specify automation requirements for alignment, assembly, test, handling, and traceability
    • Interface with automation integrators, equipment suppliers, and CMs to ensure solutions are scalable, cost‑effective, and deployable across manufacturing partners
    • Own the automation roadmap and deployment timing aligned with ramp plans
  • NPI Readiness & Transfer to Manufacturing:
    • Own FAU manufacturing readiness through Engineering, Design and Product validation test (EVT, DVT, and PVT.)
    • Define process readiness criteria and ensure timely NPI‑to‑HVM transitions
    • Own process transfer packages to contract manufacturers and support ramp‑up, yield learning, and stabilization
  • Yield, Metrology & Process Control:
    • Define metrology, inspection, and test strategies
    • Own yield performance, root‑cause analysis, and continuous improvement
    • Define and maintain SPC frameworks, Cp/Cpk targets, and control plans

REQUIREMENTS:

  • B.S., M.S. in Engineering or relevant field (preferred: Mechanical Engineering, Systems, Industrial, Mechatronic, Electronic or similar)
  • 10+ years of experience in mfg equipment design and/or process improvement
  • Hands-on experience with test and measurement technologies and automation processes
  • Demonstrated ability to solve challenging technical problems by developing creative solutions with an understanding of the underlying principles
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams and communicate complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to work in teams and lead employees
  • Innovative mindset and problem-solving attitude
  • Self-motivated to deliver results with minimal supervision
  • Communicates effectively (verbal and written)
  • Organized with good planning and time management skills
  • Works effectively with global teams
  • Positive attitude, flexible, proactive, and committed work ethics

DESIRED EDUCATION AND SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of opto-mechanical technologies and manufacturing
  • Experience with fiber optics
  • Experience with high volume production
  • Track record of engagement with external vendors for equipment design
  • Experience in business strategy creation and execution
