Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

For our location in Berlin-Adlershof, Germany, we are looking for a
Senior Optics Engineer (m/f/d)
Scope of Position:
Development of optical and optomechanical systems, components and applications for next generation optical interconnect solutions for high-performance datacenter applications (Artificial intelligence and optical compute networks). Design products, processes and testing solutions for optical connectors, components and subassemblies primarily used for optical fiber to integrated photonics interfaces.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
- Drive innovation in globally significant projects focused on advancing optical interconnect technologies.
- Lead the design, development, and prototyping of optical subassemblies, with a focus on fiber-to-chip integration.
- Translate customer and market requirements into robust product concepts and engineering solutions.
- Validate product performance through advanced simulations, lab testing, and iterative prototyping.
- Ensure all designs meet applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, sales, and design teams to align product features with user needs and business goals.
- Facilitate and contribute to design reviews, risk assessments (e.g., FMEA), and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support seamless transition of designs into scalable manufacturing processes.
- Document design processes, test results, and product specifications in clear, comprehensive technical reports.
Required Education:
- Master's Degree, or similar, in Electrical Engineering, Optical Physics or related discipline.
Required Skills:
- Minimum of 5 years experience in the fiber-optic communications, photonic semiconductors, or optical components industry, with a proven track record in successful product developments and new product introductions.
- Thorough understanding and practical expertise in the manufacturing processes of optical components, with a focus on quality and design for manufacturing (DFM).
- Solid foundational knowledge of optical fibers and connectors for datacenter applications.
- Demonstrated expertise in optical design, mechanical design, material properties, and precision assembly, with a focus on applications in the optical components field.
- Proficiency in CAD and optical simulation tools, specifically with ProE, Ansys Interconnect, Zemax or similar software, with the ability to create and modify complex designs.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, particularly in Excel for data analysis and presentation.
Desired Requirements:
- Six-Sigma Green Belt
- Experience in software programming (e.g. C, C++, Matlab, Labview, Phyton)
- Excellent English (spoken and written), German language skills is a plus

- Highly self-motivated, detail-oriented and organized.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Ability to contribute innovative solutions to complex technical challenges.
- Occasional travel may be required for collaborations or conferences.
