Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Senior Product Development Engineer (m/f/d)
Role Purpose
In this role as a Senior Product Development Engineer, you will promote the design, prototyping, and manufacturing of world-class, high-precision optical connectivity mechanical systems at SME (Subject Matter Expert) level. This is a dynamic position for a person to collaborate as part of Corning Precision Connectivity Design Engineering team.
Key Responsibilities

Primary duties will involve supporting multi-disciplinary project teams to design, study, engineer & build precision connectivity mechanical components for the Telecommunications industry throughout the development process from conception to delivery.
Experiences/Education - Required
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering / Technology related areas.
- Experience with 2D and 3D mechanical design/CAD software packages such as Solidworks and CREO Parametric.
- Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing according to ASME Y14.5-2009.
- Proficiency in Tolerance Analysis and Tolerance Allocation.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, particularly in Excel for data analysis and presentation.
Required Skills:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the optical communications, semiconductor, or photonic components industry, with a proven track record in innovation and product development.
- Full comprehension of mechanical design practices, mechanical fabrication, and assembly techniques. Ability to develop basic and advanced process knowledge to validate design approach.
- High level of technical curiosity and ability to learn, develop, and advance technical skills in mechanical design, precision engineering and product development.
- Ability to function on a product development team of multi-disciplinary engineers, bringing mechanical design support to the Optical Integration team.
- Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.
- Ability to translate engineering solutions to requirements, then further to product and/or equipment designs which deliver all required and promised performance criteria.
- Effectively use relevant measured and/or modeled data to drive decisions and actions.
- Determine and recommend best solution from a series of alternatives within given guidelines.
- Communicate effectively in various settings to provide and present necessary information to Project, Department, and Site leaders.
- Excellent English (spoken and written), German language skills is a plus.
Desired Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to develop FEA and thermal modeling simulations.
- Proficient in numerical methods and simulation software (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL)
- Knowledge of Molding manufacturing process is a plus.
- Knowledge of the Stage Gate Development Process.
