Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Position: Systems Engineer, Optical Fiber & Cable EMEA (m/f/d)
Location: Berlin, Germany / Remote, Germany / Strykow, Poland
Language Requirement: Fluent in German, English and other languages
Role Purpose
As a Systems Engineer at Corning, you will be working closely with both internal stakeholders and external customers across the EMEA region. You will represent Corning as a product and solution expert and will be responsible for the Bill-of-Materials (BOMs) generation process. This role is a blend of technical expertise and customer interaction, requiring a dynamic individual with excellent communication skills and a robust background in communications networks.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop a deep expertise in the optical fiber and cable portfolio and act as the subject matter expert (SME) for all business segments across the EMEA region.
- Work closely with Product Line Management to refine product portfolio, provide feedback regarding new product evaluation, and compliance to regional standards and norms.
- Create datasheets, system design, rack elevation drawings, technical papers and professional customer responses as needed.
- Advise customers (internal or external) about products and their use in various applications. This includes explaining product benefits and determining detailed part number lists necessary for system solutions to fulfill customer RFQs (Request for Quote).
- Comple technical requests that are submitted through the company’s CRM system and generate Bill of Materials and other project documentation.
- Deliver internal and external training, workshops and presentations on Corning products directly to customers, installers, and distribution partners.
- Provide pre-sales and after-sales customer support including product recommendation, system design, system installation training, testing, and troubleshooting at customer site.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Education: University Engineering Degree.
- Experience: At least 2-5 years in Telecom, Data Center or FTTH
Required Skills:
- Strong German and English writing and speaking skills. Additional language is a big plus.
- Data Center, FTTH or Telecom Network design knowledge and related proven experience.
- Demonstrated Technical Support Experience (customer oriented, field solutions, timely responses).
- Ability to effectively communicate technical and complex ideas to both highly technical audiences and individuals with limited technical background.
- Comfortable working in cross-functional team environments and a willingness to collaborate and learn from others.
- Strong computer skills (Office365 suite, Visio, Salesforce, SAP, etc.).
Desired Skills:
- Good hand skills: mechanical /troubleshooting/repair skills.
- Telecom active equipment configuration: Ethernet switches, IP routers, OLT/ONT, etc.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, Java, or similar.
- Project Management skills or certifications such PMP, ACP, PRINCE2 or similar.
- Relevant industry certifications such as RCDD, DCDC, CDCDP or similar are considered a big plus.
Travel Requirements:
- Up to 25% of the working time, primarily within Europe, but also potentially to the US, or Asia.
