Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
In this role as an Engineering Working Student, you will support the design, prototyping, and manufacturing of high-precision mechanical systems. You will work closely with the Corning Precision Connectivity engineering team and contribute to projects across different stages of the development process.
This position is a great opportunity for students who want to gain hands-on experience in mechanical design and product development while working in a collaborative engineering environment.
Tasks:
- Support multidisciplinary project teams in the design, development, and implementation of precision mechanical components
- Contribute to design studies, prototyping, and technical documentation
- Support the team in day-to-day engineering and development tasks
Required Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of Creo Parametric
- Basic knowledge of technical drawing
- Independent and self-reliant way of working
- Basic knowlegde of German
Preferred Qualifications
- Studies in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mechatronics, or a comparable field
- Bachelor’s students from approximately the 3rd semester onward are encouraged to apply
- Interest in a long-term collaboration, as onboarding and training often require a considerable amount of time
- Basic understanding of mechanical design, fabrication, and assembly techniques
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering team
- Knowledge of Excel and/or databases is a plus
Working Hours
- Availability of at least one day per week, preferably more
- Greater availability during semester breaks is highly welcome
- We are always happy to receive additional support, especially during periods of higher availability
