Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Job Description:
We are looking for a talented and driven student majoring in Electrical Engineering, Optical Physics, or a related discipline to join our R&D team. As an Optical Engineering Working Student (m/f/d), you will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects that push the boundaries of optical interconnects in next generation of datacenters and AI computer clusters.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Exploration of Novel Concepts:
o Collaborate with the R&D team to explore innovative concepts, assessing their technical feasibility.
o Contribute to the demonstration of proof-of-concept projects, providing insights and recommendations for future development.
2. Optical Design and Modeling:
o Support ongoing R&D projects by developing and implementing optical models to simulate the behavior of optical components and devices.
o Design optical waveguide circuits and evaluate the performance.
3. Optical Bench Setup and Testing:
o Assist in the design and setup of optical benches for testing of photonic integrated circuits and fiber-to-chip interconnects for co-packaged optics.
o Conduct experiments and tests on optical waveguides, analyzing performance and identifying areas for improvement.
Qualifications:
• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Electrical Engineering, Optical Physics, or a related discipline.
• Solid understanding of optical principles and technologies. Knowledge in silicon photonics and photonic packaging is a plus.
• Experience in programming (e.g. C, C++, Matlab, Labview, Phyton) and optical design (e.g., COMSOL, Lumerical, KLayout) software is a plus.
• Familiarity with optical characterization techniques and equipment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
