Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group): Corning Pharmaceutical Technologies (CPT) develops glass packaging solutions for the pharmaceutical industry. The key responsibilities for this role focus on development of both incremental and next generation processes delivering capability, cost, and quality objectives through technical innovation. Applied technologies include ion exchange, surface preparation, and coating developed through chemical, materials, and process methodologies. Deliverables will require both individual and collaborative approaches, including partnership across S&T and the CPT Product Development, Reliability, Division Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Commercial teams.  

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

(1) Lead experimentation driving first principles understanding and minimum viable solutions for ion exchange, surface preparation, and coating technologies to deliver step change capability, cost, and quality for CPT.

(2) Collaborate across development, engineering, and manufacturing organizations to transfer technology from development to manufacturing scale environments.

(3) Partner with Science and Technology to transition new capabilities from research to development and lead experimentation to demonstrate feasibility in application.

(4) Define process requirements for next generation equipment through fundamental understanding, modeling, and prototype scale experimentation.

(5) Collaborate with product development to design capable processes enabling new products attributes and customer focused solutions.

(6) Partner across the product development and commercial teams to deliver targeted process capability and customer samples enabling new business development.

(7) Documentation capturing intellectual property and enabling technology transfer.  

 

Travel Requirements (please note if international): Project dependent, typically <15%  

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 40+ hours per week with flex time  

 

Education and Experience (minimum required for consideration)

Masters degree with 5 years of experience in chemical or materials engineering background.

(1) Technical knowledge and experience in glass surfaces or coating technology.

(2) Experience across lab scale, pilot, and manufacturing environments.

(3) Project management skills and experience.

(4) Structured problem-solving techniques and applied statistics.
