Scope of Position:

Meaningful working supervisory role where you are charged with leading the converting process engineering team to improve equipment and process efficiency, increase yields, drive product cost reductions, and facilitate new technology and product introductions. The successful candidate will drive the application of the scientific methods and process discipline to the manufacturing operations!

Description of Work:

  • Supervise Engineers and Technicians) in support of the Big Flats CPT site.

  • We work with Plant Engineering Manager to set and implement short- and long-term engineering strategy to achieve plant production, quality, safety and financial goals.
  • Responsible for project management and provide technical expertise in the design, construction, and process debug of manufacturing equipment
  • Acts as a working manager to ensure accurate coverage of processes and projects. Willing to provide hands on leadership at times for troubleshooting and/or project leadership.
  • We drive continuous improvement in manufacturing and cost reduction for the site while maintaining compliance to systems (Quality, Safety, etc.) and product requirements.
  • Develop, coach, and mentor engineering personnel as appropriate to build and bring to bear skill sets to improve the efficiency of the process engineering group.
  • Increase throughput in the bottleneck process by improving yield and reducing set-up time.
  • Partner with the Product Team to understand and influence critical business priorities.
  • Track engineering objectives that link to the overall plant and business objectives.
  • Assign objectives and projects to the team.
  • Provide mentorship on project priority, scope, and key business linkages to ensure the individual understands how to manage schedule and resource challenges.
  • Collaborate with and support manufacturing on new product introductions, process improvements, raw material changes, and equipment design modifications.
  • Ensure all engineering related activities are conducted in accordance with established design and process control procedures.
  • Conduct periodic Performance Development and Reviews with your team.
  • Ensure all work is performed in a safe manner and environment. Responsible for his/her safety, as well as that of others that may be at the facility, whether working or visiting. Responsible for observing safe work practices and being proactive in reporting any unsafe conditions!
  • Utilize Lean manufacturing principles to reduce manufacturing costs.
  • Apply DMAIC principles to achieve project objectives.

Travel Requirements:

  • We anticipate less than 5% travel is required for this role.

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • M-F, business hours; Flexible hours may be required to support off-hours experimentation/operations on weekends and evenings

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering

  • Minimum of 5+ years of process engineering experience with 3+ years of supervision (matrix/direct)

Required Skills:

  • People leadership skills (people development, performance feedback, staffing, etc.)
  • Project management and Technical Engineering skills
  • Management and Mentoring skills
  • Experience with Microsoft packages to include Word, Excel, etc.

Desired Experience / Qualifications / Skills:

  • Prior experience in a manufacturing plant or division engineering group.

  • Performance Excellence training (Six Sigma, Lean, etc.)
  • Knowledge of LEAN manufacturing
  • Development of fundamental engineering skills in team members.

Soft Skills:

  • Effective team leader with strong interpersonal skills

  • Able to empower and develop people
  • Strong negotiation skills
