Scope of Position:

In this role you will work in a high-performance pilot manufacturing setting as part of the division engineering team on evolving, cutting edge products and technologies. The focus of this work will be on glass chemical processing and coating application. We look for you to utilize process engineering tools to lead and understand defect root causes to deliver mechanistic based solutions that will increase yields, productivity and return. You will interface and collaborate with a range of functional areas including research, development, engineering and manufacturing to deliver robust, cost effective processes. To be successful, you will be able to work well with multiple organizational levels including international colleagues.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • You will collaboration with members of immediate team as well as adjacent teams including equipment, metrology, operations, etc.
  • Lead defect root cause elimination efforts through the use of engineering tools.
  • Champion process control and process discipline and lead implementation of these.
  • Collaborate with Development, Engineering and Operating groups to ensure process requirements are understood and integrated in order to meet product requirements and division objectives.
  • Communicate progress and needs to immediate team and other partners.
  • Participate with team in new equipment start-up installation, process debug, and plant start-ups.
  • Prepare process and technology transfer documentation.
  • Support equipment and metrology design with process understanding to create systems capable of delivering high quality, cost effective product.

 

Travel Requirements:

  • 30+% possible, including international

 

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • This role may need to work up to 50 hours per week, Monday – Friday; weekends periodically

 

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Prefer Chemical, Materials or Mechanical discipline.

 

Required Years and Area of Experience:

  • Minimum of 7+ years of process engineering experience.

 

Required Skills:

  • Proficient with process engineering tools and approaches: DOE, SPC, Data Analysis, DMAIC, KT, etc.
  • Ability to prioritize different projects across multiple facilities.
  • Ability to lead process engineering projects using appropriate engineering tools.
  • Ability to implement Process Control/Process Discipline into evolving processes
  • Familiarity with metrology tools and how to interpret and utilize the data they provide.
  • Ability to demonstrate skills from multi-functional teams to identify root causes and solve complex process issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly and frequently communicate ideas and progress against objectives.

 

Desired Experience / Qualifications / Skills:

  • Prefer Masters in Engineering degree.
  • Experience with a broad range of metrology tools used to characterize glass products and chemical processes.
  • Experience with spray coating technologies and solvent-based solution processing.
  • Experience with ion exchange technology and metrology
  • Experience with clean processing and working in clean rooms.
  • Experience with low temperature thermal processes.
  • Knowledge of glass surface chemistry and measurement techniques.
  • General knowledge of machine systems including mechanical design, controls and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of agency occupational, facility and environmental safety standards.
  • Knowledge of materials/temperature interactions.
  • Ability to network across Development, Engineering and Operations groups.

  • You will need strong interpersonal skills – effective at interacting and communicating across varying payroll levels.
  • Ability to collaborate across functional areas – research, development, engineering, manufacturing, legal, business, etc.
