Role Summary
We are seeking an innovative, strategic, and execution-oriented IT Data Product Manager & Owner to lead the vision, roadmap, and delivery of D&IT data products that unlock business value through trusted, reusable data assets. This role blends product management (strategy, vision, roadmap, market/industry awareness, stakeholder alignment) with product ownership (backlog prioritization, requirement definition, release planning, and value delivery). You will partner across Digital & IT to connect strategy with pragmatic delivery—shaping a portfolio of data products (e.g., curated data sets, analytic-ready domain data, semantic layers, governed catalogs, and shared services) that improve decision making, operational efficiency, and innovation. You will champion a user-centric, data-driven culture, ensuring the product portfolio is valuable, usable, feasible, and compliant.
Key Responsibilities:
Product Strategy & Vision
• Define and communicate a compelling data product vision, strategy, and multi-horizon roadmap that aligns to D&IT goals, business value metrics, and D&IT technology roadmaps.
• Develop and maintain an integrated roadmap, translating strategic objectives into clear product outcomes and investment priorities.
• Monitor industry trends (data, AI, enterprise applications, governance, privacy/security) to continuously evolve product strategy and keep solutions competitive and modern.
Product Ownership & Delivery
• Own the end-to-end product lifecycle (discovery → ideation → MVP → scaling → sustainment) for core D&IT data products and services.
• Lead backlog management: translate D&IT needs into actionable epics/stories; prioritize based on value, risk, and effort; maintain a transparent delivery plan.
• Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and stakeholders to translate business needs into technical requirements.
Data Governance, Quality & Compliance
• Ensure data products are clean, secure, compliant, and well-documented—including metadata management, lineage, PII handling, access controls, and policy adherence.
• Help build and maintain a trusted IT data catalog (business context, technical metadata, reference data) to enable discovery, reuse, and self-service analytics.
• Align with a D&IT data governance model.
Stakeholder Engagement & Change Leadership
• Engage leaders and end users to gather requirements, validate value hypotheses, and align priorities; facilitate cross-functional planning sessions.
• Influence D&IT processes and culture to become increasingly data-driven—coaching teams on data literacy, product thinking, and evidence-based decision-making.
• Create clear communications: product briefs, value narratives, adoption playbooks, and release notes tailored to executive and practitioner audiences.
Performance Measurement & Value Realization
• Define and track KPIs for data products (adoption, satisfaction, business value, data quality, cycle time, catalog coverage, cost-to-serve).
• Analyze product performance and drive continuous improvement using quantitative and qualitative feedback loops.
• Prepare concise reports on progress, outcomes, risks, and mitigation for management, project teams, and sponsors.
Leadership & People
• Validate that customer requirements are met in the product; run fit-gap assessments and usability checks to ensure solutions meet needs and produce measurable results.
• Ensure alignment with D&IT product strategy leaders and enterprise architecture.
Qualifications Required
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or related field.
• 7–10+ years of experience across data management, data governance, analytics, or related domains; 3+ years defining product strategies and leading product communications.
• Demonstrated experience introducing and scaling a product mindset in technical and business teams within a matrixed environment.
• Experience with data catalog and governance tools (e.g., Alation), data platforms (Azure/AWS, Databricks , Snowflake), and BI/semantic tools (Power BI, Tableau).
• Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies; proven product lifecycle management.
• Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills; ability to explain digital concepts to business and business concepts to technologists.
• Analytical mindset, comfortable with data-driven decision making and KPI tracking.
• Ability to manage multiple initiatives, set priorities, and deliver results in complex, fluid environments.
• Professionalism, ethical behavior, and a collaborative working style.
Preferred
• Experience treating data as a product/asset, including data mesh–style domains and shared services.
• Familiarity with DAMA-DMBOK, data quality frameworks, and federated governance.
• Knowledge of industry-specific data standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., privacy, security, retention).
• Strategy/management consulting, learning & development, or organizational change experience.
