Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
Corning is seeking a Sales Engineer to support strategic engagement with NVIDIA, with a primary focus on Co‑Packaged Optics (CPO) and advanced data‑center connectivity solutions. This role will partner closely with Corning’s PCS and Data Center Business Unit (DCBU) teams and work directly with NVIDIA engineering and architecture organizations to enable system‑level design, validation, and large‑scale deployment of optical connectivity solutions.
Based in Bay Area, the Sales Engineer plays a highly customer‑facing role and is critical to accelerating design wins, supporting complex CPO programs, and shaping next‑generation PCS and data‑center interconnect solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Customer & System Engagement
- Serve as Corning’s primary field technical interface to NVIDIA engineering and architecture teams in Santa Clara, CA
- Lead and support system‑level architecture discussions spanning hardware platforms, CPO implementations, optical connectivity, shuffle boxes, structured cabling, and high‑density interconnect solutions
CPO & PCS Technical Leadership
- Support NVIDIA programs involving Co‑Packaged Optics, including connectivity considerations beyond the package and into the system and rack level
- Contribute to reference architectures, cabling guides, and application documentation in close collaboration with PCS product management and engineering teams
Design‑In, Validation & Issue Resolution
- Lead technical evaluations, design‑in activities, and validation efforts from early development through production ramp
- Support demonstrations, prototyping iterations, troubleshooting, and corrective actions across development and deployment phases
Internal Alignment & Execution
- Provide early visibility into customer requirements, technical risks, and scaling considerations to support internal readiness for ramp‑up and deployment at scale
- Provide on-site support (“be the eyes and ears”) for proof of concepts, samples, and troubleshooting activities in the pre-sale and post-sale processes
Required Education
- Bachelor of Science – Engineering, Physics, or Applied Science
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in optical fibers and connectivity
- Familiarity and experience with multi-layer physical layer data center network topologies like spine and leaf
- Layer 2 Networking Certification a plus
- Familiarity with Scale Out, Scale Up, and Scale Across AI network architectures
- Semiconductor experience a plus
- Experience using a CRM, especially Salesforce
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive, and SharePoint
Desired Experiences
- Master's Degree preferred. PhD a plus
- Green Belt certification
- Black belt (6 Sigma or Innovation) training
- Project and/or manufacturing financial management knowledge
- Knowledge of Innovation Stage-gate processes

The range for this position is $96,254.00 - $132,349.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
