Key Responsibilities

• Controls Systems Engineering
  • Design, modify, and support PLC‑based control systems for manufacturing tools and test benches.
  • Develop and maintain electrical schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Implement controls solutions supporting motion systems, lasers, vision systems, and process equipment typical of AO operations.
• Manufacturing & Test Support
  • Serve as a primary technical resource for controls‑related equipment and test bench issues in Canton.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, controls, and software issues to minimize downtime and maintain production continuity.
  • Support new equipment installation, upgrades, and replication of legacy or obsolete control systems.
  • Support system integration activities such as FAT, SAT, IQ, OQ, PQ start-ups, as well as staff training for process machines and material handling systems.  Identification of critical parts, PM and document creation.

• • Coordinate effectively with external partners, including machine builders, system integrators, and suppliers—to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery of equipment that meets performance criteria.
• Software & Automation
  • Develop and maintain PLC and HMI code.
  • Implement recipes, interlocks, alarms, and basic data logging as required.
  • Modify existing code to support evolving process and production needs.
• Safety & Compliance
  • Design and implement machine safety and interlock circuits in alignment with Corning and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in safety reviews and ensure controls systems meet applicable standards.
  • Promote safe operation and reliable equipment performance.
• Collaboration & Communication
  • Work closely with mechanical engineers, process engineers, technicians, and operations staff in Canton.
  • Communicate progress, results, and technical risks clearly.
  • Exercise sound judgment on task ownership versus escalation.

Experiences/Education - Required

• Minimimum Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering with demonstrated controls aptitude or similar discipline
• 0 – 3 years of manufacturing experience
• Ability to debug and monitor PLC code – ladder logic
• Sound understanding of AC/DC electrical theory, and practical application thereof
• Working knowledge of data analysis techniques using Microsoft Excel, Access, SQL, and/or Power BI
• Ability to generate and interpret electrical drawings
• Knowledge of ANSI standards, NFPA and NEC applicable Electrical Codes.
• Up to 25% including regional and international travel required

• Internship experience 
• Ability to participate on, or lead, project or process improvement teams by communicating with all levels of the organization

• Good problem-solving skills.  Ability to reach first principles understanding
• Highly motivated and strong electrical aptitude
• Experience and/or understanding of Six Sigma techniques
• Strong diagnostic skills on electro-mechanical systems
• Self-starter able to exceed expectations with a minimal amount of supervision
• Experience with various electro-mechanical systems
• Experience with Allen Bradley controllers and associated hardware including: PLC and I/O devices, motion control, various communication protocols, field wiring and disconnect devices
• Experience with various electro-mechanical devices (i.e. servo motors, valves and sensing devices)
• Experience with industrial vision systems and scanning devices
• Knowledge of Autodesk Inventor or other 3D modeling software

The range for this position is $71,067.00 - $97,718.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
