Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose
Corning is hiring an Industrial Engineer to support manufacturing operations at its Canton, New York facility. This is a full-time, onsite role with a standard Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. schedule, with additional time as business needs require. Limited travel (approximately 5–10%) may be necessary for internal meetings, training courses, or supplier and customer visits.
At the Canton site, engineers support advanced glass and materials manufacturing across semiconductor, aerospace, and defense applications. The Industrial Engineer plays an active role on the plant floor, partnering closely with production, maintenance, and experienced engineering team members to improve how work flows through the plant – how material moves, how capacity is used, how labor is planned, and how efficiently equipment and people are utilized. Success in this role comes from building a working knowledge of the manufacturing system, applying sound industrial engineering fundamentals, learning from data and plant experience, and clearly communicating observations and recommendations in a union manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
•    Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve throughput, productivity, cost, on-time delivery, and overall manufacturing performance.
•    Conduct time studies and work measurement to develop, validate, and maintain labor standards, cycle times, and standard work documentation.
•    Analyze capacity, line balance, bottlenecks, and equipment utilization (OEE) to identify constraints and opportunities for improvement.
•    Evaluate plant layout, material flow, and workstation design to reduce travel, handling, work-in-process, and non-value-added activity.
•    Partner with production, maintenance, planning, and engineering teams to support daily manufacturing operations, troubleshoot flow and capacity issues, and build expertise in the manufacturing system through floor observation, data analysis, and collaboration with experienced team members

Required Qualifications
•    Bachelor of Science degree in industrial engineering, industrial and systems engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related engineering field.
•    0–2 years of experience in a technical, manufacturing, internship, co-op, research, or industrial engineering environment.
•    Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to clearly communicate technical issues and observations.
•    Demonstrated ability or interest in working in a manufacturing or production-focused environment.
•    Ability to learn quickly, adapt to changing priorities, and work effectively in a team-based environment.

Experiences/Education – Desired
•    Internship, co-op, research, or other hands-on engineering experience in manufacturing, operations, or continuous improvement.
•    Exposure to lean manufacturing and structured problem-solving methodologies (DMAIC, KT, value stream mapping, kaizen).
•    Experience with time studies, work measurement, labor standards, or standard work development.
•    Experience with data analysis and visualization tools (Excel, Minitab, Power BI, SQL) to support engineering decisions.
•    Exposure to discrete-event simulation, capacity modeling, or facility layout tools (AutoCAD, FlexSim).
•    Familiarity with ERP/MES systems and shop-floor data collection.
•    Ability to work effectively with hourly production employees in a union setting.

The range for this position is $68,958.00 - $94,817.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
