Role Purpose

 

Corning is hiring a Process Engineer to support manufacturing operations at its Canton, New York facility. This is a full‑time, onsite role with a standard Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. schedule, with additional time as business needs require. Limited travel (approximately 5–10%) may be necessary for internal meetings, training courses, or supplier and customer visits.

 

At the Canton site, engineers support advanced glass and materials manufacturing across semiconductor, aerospace, and defense applications. The Process Engineer plays a highly visible role on the plant floor, partnering closely with production and maintenance teams to keep processes stable, efficient, and continuously improving. Success in this role comes from developing deep process understanding, translating data into action, and clearly communicating changes that enable operations to perform at a high level in a union manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive process improvement initiatives to improve yield, quality, cost, and manufacturing performance.
  • Identify process and equipment limitations and develop practical, data‑driven solutions.
  • Apply structured problem‑solving techniques to identify root causes and implement sustainable improvements.
  • Support new product and process launches, raw material changes, and equipment design modifications.
  • Analyze and interpret process data to develop clear action plans and technical recommendations.
  • Partner with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to support daily manufacturing operations.
  • Provide technical input to help prioritize projects aligned with plant and business objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in ceramic, materials, chemical engineering, or a related engineering field.
  • 3+ years of experience in a technical, manufacturing, or process engineering role.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to clearly articulate technical issues
  • Experience working in a manufacturing or production‑focused environment

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Experience with structured problem‑solving methodologies (DMAIC, KT, scientific method)
  • Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification
  • Ability to work effectively with hourly production employees in a union setting

The range for this position is $84,932.00 - $116,782.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
