Role Purpose

Corning is hiring a Process Engineer to support manufacturing operations at its Canton, New York facility. This is a full-time, onsite role with a standard Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. schedule, with additional time as business needs require. Limited travel (approximately 5–10%) may be necessary for internal meetings, training courses, or supplier and customer visits.

At the Canton site, engineers support advanced glass and materials manufacturing across semiconductor, aerospace, and defense applications. The Process Engineer plays a highly visible and influential role on the plant floor, partnering closely with production, maintenance, and cross-functional teams to ensure processes remain stable, efficient, and continuously improving. Success in this role comes from deep process expertise, sound technical judgment, strong leadership in complex problem-solving, and the ability to translate data into actions and decisions that improve plant performance in a union manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead process improvement initiatives to improve yield, quality, cost, and manufacturing performance.
• Identify strategic process and equipment limitations and develop robust, data-driven solutions with broad operational impact.
• Lead structured problem-solving efforts to identify root causes, resolve chronic issues, and implement sustainable improvements.
• Provide technical leadership for new product and process launches, raw material changes, and equipment design modifications.
• Analyze and interpret complex process data to develop clear action plans, technical recommendations, and business-aligned priorities.
• Partner with production, maintenance, engineering, and leadership teams to support daily manufacturing operations and long-term process capability.
• Provide technical direction and leadership on projects aligned with plant and business objectives.
• Influence prioritization of process, equipment, and capital improvement opportunities based on technical risk, business value, and operational needs.
• Coach and mentor less experienced engineers and technical team members in process understanding, problem-solving, and execution.
• Serve as a key technical resource for escalated manufacturing issues and cross-functional decision-making.

Experiences/Education - Required

• Bachelor of Science degree in ceramic, materials, chemical engineering, or a related engineering field.
• 10+ years of experience in a technical, manufacturing, or process engineering role.
• Demonstrated success leading process improvement initiatives and solving complex manufacturing problems in a production environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to clearly articulate technical issues, influence decisions, and drive action across functions.
• Experience working in a manufacturing or production-focused environment.
• Demonstrated leadership in cross-functional teams, including setting direction, making sound technical decisions, and driving execution through others.
• Ability to balance day-to-day manufacturing support with longer-term process strategy and improvement planning.
• US Citizenship required

Experiences/Education - Desired

• Experience with structured problem-solving methodologies (DMAIC, KT, scientific method).
• Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification.
• Ability to work effectively with hourly production employees in a union setting.
• Experience mentoring or developing engineers or technical professionals.
• Experience leading cross-functional teams, significant process changes, or capital-related improvement efforts.

The range for this position is $114,457.00 - $157,379.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
