The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.

 

Scope of Position:

This role will be reporting directly to the Forming Department Leader, this position coordinates operational and quality team support for manufacturing operations, process improvement, and project development. Responsibilities include providing technical guidance, process and system improvement recommendations, and statistical problem-solving techniques to manufacturing operations and project teams for more effective forming systems, process improvements, continuous improvements, and validation activities. This position works closely with other functions within the organization (Manufacturing, Safety, Quality, and Engineering) and is responsible for the internal technological system development and process improvements.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates manufacturing team support including, excel system support, scheduling support, statistical analysis, operational metrics, quality metrics and reporting functions.
  • Support the investigation of Corrective & Preventive Actions (CAPA), product non-conformances, and of customer complaints, providing solutions where possible.
  • Develop improved ways of system communication throughout the department.
  • Support Continuous Improvement activities in cooperation with the Operations Supervisor and Department Leader.
  • Create / Revise technical process documents that fit the business needs and maintain compliance to the regulatory requirements OSHA and ISO standards.
  • Serve as a resource for performing internal audits to ensure quality system compliance.

Required Education & Experience:

  • We require a Bachelor’s Degree in technical field (Engineering or Computer Science preferred.)
  • We are seeking a minimum of 3+ years of programming and technical experiencing building problem solving tools in a manufacturing or production setting.
  • Advanced Excel programming skills including macros and building queries.
  • Capable of the integration and application of user aimed manufacturing process documentation while meeting business and regulatory requirements.
  • Expert knowledge of spreadsheet applications and database queries to perform necessary tasks for preparing required data analysis, tracking reports, communication flow, and
  • Ability to quickly resolve quality issues and follow through with process partners.

Desired Experience:

  • Some leadership experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and relevant statistical methods for quality assurance preferred.

  • Must be action-oriented, capable of making informed decisions, be self-motivated, capable of influencing without authority.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. Capable of prioritizing time to handle multiple assignments and to interact with product teams.
  • Able to influence individuals without authority and to motivate others within a project team.
  • Flexibility to lead project teams or be a team member.
  • Comfortable in giving direction to accomplish tasks.
  • Must be an effective communicator (written and verbal), highly organized, motivated, detail oriented with excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • Standard business hours; Monday – Friday.
