The global Information Technology (IT) Function is leading efforts to align IT and Business Strategy, leverage IT investments, and optimize end to end business processes and associated information integration technologies.  Through these efforts, IT helps to improve the competitive position of Corning's businesses through IT enabled processes.  IT also delivers Information Technology applications, infrastructure, and project services in a cost efficient manner to Corning worldwide.

Data, automation and advanced analytics technologies are drastically transforming industrial manufacturers beyond point process automation to systemic, highly contextualized and data driven systems.   Corning is building the foundational digital infrastructure for these company-wide efforts, and are looking for passionate, hard-working, and talented staff-level software engineers that will develop and enhance the data ingestion pipelines that are crucial to these efforts.

 

Scope of Position

We are seeking a seasoned AI/ML Engineer with a track record of designing and implementing machine learning methodologies and data science methodologies across various business units. This role will work with the business, define the problem, document and recommend the best solution through the use of ML/AI methodologies.   You will be tasked with creating models, including but not limited to ARIMA, Prophet, XGBoost, Regression, Random Forest, Deep Learning Models, and Generative AI Models for given use cases that can scale across the enterprise.

 

 Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement AI/ML data science methodologies and AI Products that align with business objectives.
  • Generate comprehensive whitepapers and reports to provide strategic recommendations on AI data science initiatives.
  • Design and implement various forecasting models to support business decision-making.
  • Work with Generative AI models and Language Models (LLMs) to solve complex business problems.
  • Build scalable AI/ML models for given use cases, including price elasticity and recommendation systems, ensuring applicability/reusability across multiple business units.
  • Participate in AI COEs (center of excellence) to drive governance and reusability as well as AI Products adoption.
  • Leverage tools such as Databricks and AWS SageMaker to manage data, build models, and deploy solutions.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, understanding their needs and translating them into AI/ML solutions.
  • Continually monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of AI/ML models and forecasting techniques, making necessary adjustments to optimize performance.
  • Stay abreast of the latest AI/ML trends and technologies, identifying opportunities for innovation and improvement.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or related field is preferred.
  • 10+ overall years of experience with minimum of 8 years of experience AI/ML data science, with a focus on strategy development and implementation.

Required Skills

  • Proven expertise in designing scalable AI/ML models and forecasting models like ARIMA, Prophet, LSTM, SARIMA, and XGBoost (experience in 2 models not all required)
  • Demonstrated experience with recommender systems, regression models, generative AI models, and Language Models (LLMs).
  • Demonstrated ability to generate whitepapers and in-depth reports, advising businesses on how to execute AI data science strategies.
  • Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms, data analysis, and statistical modeling techniques.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex data insights into understandable and actionable recommendations.
  • Ability to Communicate well with users, other technical team to collect requirements, describe data modeling decisions.
  • Demonstrated programming proficiency in R or Python

Desired Skills

  • Understand concepts of big data engineering, ETL and ELT pipelines for data warehousing, on-premise and cloud data lake environments
  • Proficiency with tools such as Databricks and AWS SageMaker. 
  • Familiarity with MLOps.
  • Experience with Sagemaker, Databricks, DBT, AWS platform services, including AWS S3 & EC2
  • Experience with Data Migration Services (DMS), RDS, EMR, RedShift, Glue, Lambda, DynamoDB, CloudWatch, CloudTrail a plus
  • Hands-on technical familiarity with Apache Spark architecture, S3, parquet and Delta Lake architecture, technologies and tools
  • Familiarity with agile software development & continuous integration + continuous deployment methodologies along with supporting tools such as Git (Gitlab), Jira, Terraform, New Relic
  • Familiarity with notebook environments including JupyterHub

The range for this position is $123,494.00 - $169,804.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
